2 WEEKS LATER-2015
LUKE'S POV
---------------------
It seems like it has been ages since we've seen anyone, you know, normal around these parts. 2 weeks on our own, but with tons of food and clothes and stuff. I guess that the mall was the best place to live in. Most of the Strangers around Phoenix have drifted towards the center of the city, away from our mall. But still, we can't leave this place without getting attacked.
I walked over to Tilly's to get a jacket, it kept getting colder and colder. I pulled a jacket out of one of the nearest clothes rack, letting my guard down for a minute while trying it on. I heard a thud from the entrance where I had climbed in 2 weeks ago. I grabbed a knife that I had gotten from the Sports Utility store across the mall, and went to find Ava.
AVA'S POV
-----------
I heard a series of thuds coming from the entrance. I reached down to my side and pulled out a knife. I walked out of the storage room, carefully, quietly. I heard footsteps coming. I grasped my knife harder. Ready to stab whoever walked in, I raised my hand, and expecting to find a Stranger, I found Luke.
3rd PERSON
------------
"God, Luke, you freaking scared me!" she said.
"Sorry, I was just coming to get you...I heard something back over by the entr-"
"Yeah, I know. Let's go check it out."
"Okay." Luke said as he reached down for Ava's hand. Luke was so tired of being held inside, he just wanted to run outside like a psyco.
"Two weeks," he thought "without even going outside once."
"Ava?" he asked.
"Yeah Luke?"
"After we check this out, we need to go outside.."
"Umm, why?" Ava said with a quizzical look. "Listen, it's safe in here, and I don't know whats going on up there, but there is no way in hell that I'm leaving this mall." Ava wrenched her hand away from Luke's grip. "Go on, go see what's making those noises.
"Hey, I didn't mean for you to take that the wrong way.. But alright, I'll go." Luke sighed. He walked carefully over to the entrance. Cautiously, he took a step forward as he heard another thump. He heard a low moan coming from outside. A horrible face pressed up against the glass. A Stranger. It might have been a soccer mom before this all happened. The Stranger's nose had a chunk torn out of it, and it's skin was gray, sagging in places. As it hit the glass, pus slowly dripped out of a gash on her cheek. The Stranger had a dirty white shirt and bloodstained sweatpants. Luke brandished his knife and back paced towards where Ava was. When she saw him, she shot him a questioning look.
"Strangers," he panted. "They're almost breaking the glass."
"SHIT!!" Ava yelled. "Okay, grab a knife or two from the sports utility store. QUICKLY! We need to find somewhere else thats safe. I'll pack food. Now go!!!!!" Ava ran off towards the Trader Joe's and Luke followed her to the Sports Utility store, which happened to be near. They frantically grabbed everything they thought useful and shoved it into their bags. They heard glass shatter, and many low moans and growls coming from the entrance.
"Holy crap, Luke," Ava whispered. "They're in and coming for us. Its all over. We're dead." Ava looked around and almost hesitantly, planted a kiss on Luke's lips. They stood there, embracing, kissing. Then they snapped back into reality. Ava and Luke spun into action, and ran towards the other side of the mall. When they made it to entrance, they were overjoyed; no Strangers anywhere near them now. They pried open the doors, and stumbled outside.
"Where to?" Luke said.
"Umm, how about over near the Basha's market?" Ava said.
"Yeah. Hey, what was that kiss about?"
"I'm sorry..." Ava replied.
"No, it's fine! I'm lucky to have kissed you." Luke smiled.
"Okay then..." Luke kissed Ava, and they smiled at each other. Ava took Luke's hand and they ran down through the town all the way to the Basha's parking lot.
"Thank God, we're here!" Luke said. He scanned the area. All clear. But something wasn't right. "Let's move. NOW!"
"What's wrong, babe?" Ava asked as she intertwined her fingers with Luke's.
"It's not right, let's go." Luke replied. And with that, four strangers came lumbering out from the market. "Holy shit!"
They grabbed their knives and bats and ran towards the strangers. Stabbing wildly, Ava got one of them in the eye and it howled in pain. Luke smashed its head with his bat and it fell to the ground. They finished off the rest of the Strangers, smashing and stabbing everywhere.
CLEO'S POV
------------
I watched them bash the zombies heads in. Wow, they were really strong. I stepped a little closer out of curiosity, but out of their range, so they couldn't see me. Suddenly, the guy raised his hand as if to make them quiet down. I stepped closer, and cracked a twig. Their heads snapped towards me. The girl did a double take, grabbed his hand and ran towards me. I turned and ran, and ran. My foot caught on a stone and I went crashing down to the ground. They caught up with me, and all I could do to keep from crying in fear was to pray.
LUKE'S POV
------------
We caught up with the girl, she was pretty fast. She had blond hair with blue tips and was wearing ripped red skinny jeans with a tank top with rips in the back. I put my foot on her back while Ava made sure she didn't try to escape. We asked her some stuff like her name, which was Cleo. She said she was just watching and that she was alone. Ava told her that if she was lying that she would stab her. And that made her cry more.
AVA'S POV
-----------
She started to cry even more, but then she stopped. She pushed us off of her and pulled a switch knife out of her pocket. "Move and you'll be the one that will be laying with a knife in your chest." she growled. I stepped back out of stabbing range and said that we'll all put our weapons down and talk. So we did. Cleo told us about how she got to Phoenix all the way from Los Angeles. I stared at her in disbelief. I grabbed Luke's hand and led him away for a second.
3rd PERSON
------------
She grabbed Luke's hand and led him away from Cleo.
"Boo, what do you think of that goth girl?" Ava asked.
"She's alright. Strong enough to push us both off. Fast. Tall." Luke replied.
"Alright, thats settled." Ava said. Ava leaned forward and started to kiss Luke. Cleo watched them as she sat by the weapons.
They walked back, hand in hand, confidently.
"Okay," Luke sighed. "Stay with us. We need someone like you to survive now. "
