HAZEL'S P O V

"By the way Hazy, someone was looking for you earlier today."

Both Lily and I immediately turned our attention to her. I wasn't one to be graced with random visits from friends like Lily.

"Who was it?"

"A guy I've never seen before. Said his name is Phil. You know him?" Mom asked peering to me for an answer.

Phil? I didn't know anyone by that name.

"No, I don't know any Phil. Did he mention why he was looking for me?"

"Not really, merely said you were a good friend of his."

"Uhmm... can you describe him?"

Mom looked like she was in deep thought before she finally spoke. I'd almost forgotten she was terrible at describing people. It was always a chore for her.

"Well... all I remember is that he didn't look too young or too old either. Just somewhere in between. He's not muscular and he doesn't look like a weakling either."

"Haha okay, if its someone I know I'll definitely try to join the complicated pieces you've given me. Wait, did he have a car?"

"Yes but I didn't really pay attention on the type."

Strange... really strange.

"Hazy do you even realize what day it is?" Anna had this habit of walking into a room unceremoniously and blabbing out whatever it is she had to say right from the door, not minding whether the hearer was paying any attention or not.

Lazying in my couch in old pajamas with a glass of milk(you heard me, I love milk) and a remote in hand on that fateful Saturday morning, I knew too well the luxury wouldn't last long the moment I heard Anna' squeaky voice, and the incessant clanking of her heels. Didn't her feet ever hurt? Spending a whole day in heels was a chore for me and usually contributed to my bad mood.

"Uhmm... Saturday? Sixth day of the week? Why?" I inquired already knowing where the conversation was headed. I wasn't in for Anna's night-outs, parties or karaoke nights.

Anna stared at me disbelievingly, one arm snaked through the strap of her silver sling bag before flopping onto the couch, her knee-length balloon dress forming a huge mass of fabric around her slim body. This girl always made sure she's all dolled up before leaving the house. No wonder she was a darling for so many brands; be it toothpaste adverts or a new cloth-line in town.

"Exactly." She put on a dramatic approving expression like I had just passed a test. "And do you know what that means? For us?"

"What" I asked already starting to devise ways to evade the subject.

"So... Brad and his girlfriend April are throwing a party this evening and we are invited."

Sometimes I wondered how come Anna and I became friends in the first place. I admit we were pretty different but she had a good heart. I could bet on that.

"You must be kidding me Anna. Brad is in town?" Brad and I were in the same college and he was previously interested in me but I considered him a no-go-zone. He'd dated and screwed almost every girl in school and he got mad at me because I didn't fall prey to his little schemes. So, I wasn't particularly excited to go. I was surprised that he and Anna were friends.

"Anna you should know too well that I don't go to parties and this one is no exception."

"Yeah yeah yeah okay, I won't insist this time because you've been working your head off lately and you deserve some rest. But you must compensate for missing out on this one." She said raising her hands dramatically in surrender.

I smiled knowing I was finally off the hook.

"You can't imagine what you're missing out on Haze."

"Trust me Anna, I'm happier this way."

"Oh whatever." She rolled her big eyes whose size was unusually exaggerated by the eyeliner she had on.

I was taking my shower when I heard my phone ringing in in my bedroom. Whoever it was had to wait till I finished my long skin care routine.

Wrapping myself with my baby pink towel, I went to check my phone and found that I had 18 missed calls from Anna.

What the heck?

I knew Anna could be stubborn at times when she wanted something but 18 missed calls? This was unusual.

I called her number several times with no answer until a neutral female voice spoke on the sixth ring. Rivulets of water were still dripping from my hair and onto my body, and onto my screen but I didn't have time to care.

"Hello?"

"Hello can I speak to Anna?"

"I'm sorry ma'am but the owner of this phone has just been brought into our Hospital at a very critical state. She's still unconscious but she's in good hands."

Oh no! This can't be... Not Anna... Not my best friend... God no...

I was still standing on the same spot, tears already making their way down my cheeks and I started feeling my legs getting weak.

"Hello ma'am?"

"Yes I'm still here. Please give me the address of the hospital. I'll be there."

"If that pesky Anna had brought her friend with her, she wouldn't have ended up in hospital."

"Brad what's wrong with you? You just came back and you've started causing trouble already?"

"Shut up Ted. Hazel might have been lucky enough to sneak out of the web this time, but I won't stop until I have her in my arms."

"What? And what about April?"

"Oh come on Ted, you know me. April is not and will never be my type and you know it. She's just useful for now. A stepping stone to the ultimate goal. Know what I mean?"

"Isn't this enough to steer you off her? What if she finds out you're behind her best friend's injury and reports you to the police?"

"Relax... I know what I'm doing."

"You're crazy man."

"Oh you have no idea. Brad is back!!"
