My name is Shane Hunter. I live in the small town of LakeWater, where people believe extraordinary things happen on a regular basis. I,on the other hand, strongly disagree.

LakeWater seems like a ghost town these days, nothing new ever happens.

The same goes for LakeWater High.

Today I turn eighteen. For most of my friends, this is a ticket to freedom but for me, it's just another year that I blow out an extra candle on a cake.

After school, I normally take the long route home with my friends, Chris and Alex, but today somethings telling me to take the shortcut.

"What do you say we go through Old man Ryan's farm?" I say with a hint of enthusiasm.

"Uh, did zombies eat your brain or something?" Alex replies surprised. "You remember what happened there last time, right? Middle of the night dare, we camped out and a gigantic monster came chasing after us!"

"Oh come on! Gigantic monster? It was Old man Ryan's dog." Chris says bursting out in laughter. "Buster is not that terrifying, you know."

"If you don't want to come, we won't stop you." I say kind of sternly.

"Alrighty then. But don't come running to me if you meet that monster again."

Just like that, Alex swiftly runs away from us making his blonde hair fly all over the place.

"It's been a while,huh?"

"Yeah. I remember playing pranks on Old man Ryan all the time. The stink bomb was the best!"

Chris and I are sitting on a grassy hill just metres away from Old man Ryan's farm. Playing pranks on him was one of the best memories I ever had as a kid. Stink bombs, water guns and fireworks flashed in my mind. I can't help but smile.

"So, you're finally 18. How's the first day feeling?"

"Actually, it's no different. I bet lifes going to be the same old thing for me."

"Yeah, I know what you're talking about. So sad yet so true."

"Nothing interesting ever happens in LakeWater," I sigh and carry on tearing the grass out from the soil.

What I didn't know was that the excitement I was looking for, was just around the corner.
