When I get home, my family throws a small party for me. Cake, balloons, streamers. I even get presents!

The Hunters have really outdone themselves this year, I chuckle to myself.

For the first time in ages, I feel abit of fun creeping back into my life. It feels great.

The next morning, I wake up to the scent of freshly baked custard pie. In the kitchen, my younger sister, Perrie, has custard smeared all over her face.

"Perrie, if you want to enjoy the taste of the pie, at least get some into your mouth and not all over your face, okay?" I joke with a chuckle.

She does a cute little thumbs up with her wide toothy grin and takes another piece of pie, smearing it all over her face like she had never heard what I'd said.

Dad was reading the papers, just like every other Saturday morning. He has this awed yet interested look on his face that I had never quite seen before.

"Morning Dad."

"Hmmm," He mumbles without looking up at me.

"Dad? Daaaaddd..."

"What? Oh, I'm sorry Shane. Good morning." He says and dives back into the papers.

"Did you get a good nights rest?" Mum asked, setting a plate of pie in front of me.

"Yeah. Uh, Dad anything interesting in the papers?"

"Umm.. No son. Just the usual. They've actually got a new bakery in town." He replies with a chuckle.

"Oh."

"Well, I better go back to the lab and do some more tests. The pie was lovely, dear." Dad replies and heads straight out the door, taking the newspaper with him.

My Dad is a lab technician. Testing blood samples and all that. He gets paid quite a large sum since there's hardly anyone up for the job.

Something kept bugging me about that look on Dad's face and I wanted to know what was up. I brushed it off and put all concentration on eating the pie that was still on my plate.

**************

I have lunch at Alex's place. Delicious homemade chicken burgers.

Mr and Mrs Thurston are one of the nicest people I've ever met, but then again, everyone I've met are nice.

"Dude, wanna watch a movie?"

"Uh, yeah. Sure thing." I reply.

Alex and I watch The Guardians Of The Galaxy and I love it. We watch two more movies with Chris who comes alittle bit later.

" I am the Star Lord!!!! I am the Star Lord!!!!" Alex yells while running around in circles.

We are sitting in the front yard laughing our heads off at Alex.

When everyone calms down, we take a walk to the neighbourhood store to get some tinned food Mrs Thurston wanted.

"Hey Arnold."

Arnold Rein is one of our good friends from school. His Dad owns the family store. His Mum  passed away two years ago from a heart attack.

"Hey guys," he replies with his mega watt smile. "What brings you here today?"

"Can I have two tins of mackarel and three tins of baked beans, please." Alex says handing Arnold the money.

"Alrighty."

"Where's Carly?" I ask and burst out laughing when I see Chris blushing.

Carly is one of the smartest girls in LakeWater High and she's Arnold's younger sister. She has the brains, along with beauty so it's hard for most guys not to fall for her, including Chris Dean.

"She went to grandma's for the weekend. Be back tomorrow." He replies.

Arnold's face grows stern almost immediately.

"Hey Shane, how'd your Dad react to the news of Rob Kweller?"

"Rob Kweller? What happened to him?" I ask surprised.

"You don't know?! It's all over the papers!!!"

" My Dad took the papers to the lab this morning,'' I reply.

" Here, read it for yourself," he says handing me the paper.

There it was written in big bold letters on the headlines:

ROB KWELLER FOUND DEAD IN HOME.

I am speechless.

And so are my friends when I race home without saying a word.
