It had been only some time—two weeks—since Elena had agreed to give Isabella her space until she was ready to completely forgive the Gilbert girl. Isabella had managed to stay in the loop as Caroline had kept her up to date on what's been happening.
Isobel, Elena's biological mother, had shown up on the doorstep of the Gilbert residence, which made Jenna realize everyone, excluding Isabella, had been lying to her about Isobel all along. Isabella felt terrible for the strawberry blonde woman, knowing how betrayed and furious she must be, especially at Alaric. They must have apologized over and over again, but when trust is broken, sorry means nothing. They kept the truth from her, but the truth is never as painful as discovering a lie, and a lie is painful when it comes in one way or another, especially from the person you love.
Things only got worse, because Caroline explained to Isabella how Matt now knew she was a vampire, and Matt had disappeared before the blonde vampire could compel him to forget. Matt didn't take the news lightly, because he had been lied to by everyone, and it caused him to go missing after he made the connection a vampire had killed his sister, Vicki.
It didn't take Caroline long to find Matt, as he had been at the Forbes residence after he had accused sheriff Forbes of covering up Vicki's death. Caroline told Matt everything he wanted to know, and he listened intently in silence as the Forbes girl explained, having her compel him right after she told him the truth because he didn't want to know.
Isabella spent the whole night comforting Caroline after she showed up to her house in tears, completely breaking Isabella's heart. While she did understand Matt needed time to process, she was pissed because Matt was convinced he was all alone even after Caroline had expressed her love to him. Isabella had consoled Caroline, staying with her until the blonde fell asleep from exhaustion due to eating ice cream and venting.
In other news, Isobel had screwed Katherine over, being told Klaus would grant Katherine her freedom in exchange for the moonstone and doppelgänger. It didn't take too much time to get rid of them, as Isobel had been compelled to take off her daylight necklace and burn to death in the sun right in front of Elena after she practically kidnapped her. Katherine had stolen the moonstone and disappeared without a trace. After this had all blown over, Klaus made his appearance in Mystic Falls.
It was later in the day when Isabella was sitting on the couch in the Salvatore boarding house. Isabella had been rummaging through boxes in the attic when Elena had called and asked her to meet at the boarding house, telling her it was urgent. She reluctantly agreed, not wanting to be in the same room as Damon and Stefan, but she knew it must've been something serious for Elena to call her, due to the requested space she had been giving the Rossi girl.
