**Sorry if you find any errors. I wrote this all tonight as part of a contest me and a couple of friends are having: get 50,000 words written in two weeks. It's awesome. Anyway, yeah, it's unedited and if you're confused, it'll probably be explained in the next few chapters.
And as for the title... well, that's a filler until I come up with something I like, honestly. XD
Thanks for reading!

PART ONE: THE FALL
Chapter One:
I stormed into the old school building in a terrible mood. Shierry was going to pay.
People gawked at me when I walked in. Some whispered to themselves. I tried to ignore those- they had most probably heard the rumors, the reasons I’d come to school in such a bad mood- and marched up to where Shierry was talking with her bubblegum pop friends.
The school walls were an ugly, peeling yellow, and the lockers were blue, the school colors, but I noticed that Shierry had decorated hers with so much stuff that it looked light blue. Of course Shierry got to get away with that. I tried to banish the ugly thoughts from my mind and concentrate on the good, but that left me with too little to concentrate on.
“Why?” I asked her. “What the hell, Shierry?”
“What?” she asked, pretending to be innocent. I knew it was an act, though. Most of the students at Carroll High knew it was an act.
“The rumors. You know full well what,” I said. I saw that Shierry had put up her school-wide ranking on her locker- a big angry two, glaring at me. Was that why?
“I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about,” she said, sneering. Her friends simpered behind her. “And if I did, it’s not like there’s anything you can do about it, Lori. Maybe try not to show up the top girl next time and see how that works.”
The bell rang to start class and they walked off, leaving me staring at the big angry two, the symbol of my pride and my defeat.
I should have been walking to class, but instead, I stood there in the emptying hallway, dumbfounded. Shierry would do that to me, just so she could move up a spot? Furiously, I screamed and threw my backpack across the hallway, just out of pent-up frustration. Was her school-wide ranking really that important to her?
I knew that it was, to me, at least; I’d worked long and hard to get up that high on Profile, only to be shot down again by Shierry, my archenemy since grade school. Knowing I needed to get to class, I strode to pick up my backpack and strode up the stairs, taking two at a time.
As I paced into the classroom, I could hear the whispers flurry. The teacher looked at me, angry.
“Late again, Lori.”
“I know,” I said, trying not to sound sulky. Istria, the girl that sat behind me, giggled. I remembered her as being one of Shierry’s bubblegum crew. I felt completely humiliated.
Eventually the class settled down, but halfway through the class period, a voice crackled through the sound system. Even with all the new technologies out there, my school was too cheap to change; we’d had the same kind of intercom system since the early 21st century.
“Mrs. Paige, can you please send Lori Keating to the principal’s office?”
“Sure,” she said, glancing at me. “She’ll be right there.”
