Callie knew she had to keep her cool, not to stress out her patients, but Ivy wasn't as rationally thinking as her sister. Ivy trusted the Orthopaedic team, and knew they would protect her sister. Before anyone could take their next breath, Ivy was though the door and half way down the corridor. No one had hope of catching her. She ran straight through the police on the doors of orthopaedic's and ran for Paediatrics.
Paeds was in her sights as Ivy heard something that made her stop dead in her tracks.
BANG!
The sound of a gunshot, and it sounded like it was came from the ward she was headed for. Ivy continued running, faster than she ever had in her life. The policemen on the door let her run straight through them and she entered the ward and caught sight of Arizona. She was safe for now, she was just coming out of the staff room. Catching sight of Ivy, she let the stress get to her for a second.
"What the hell do you think you're doing Ivy! There are dangerous people on the loose! You were supposed to stay with your sister!" Dr. Robbins yelled at the girl. She hadn't meant for it to come out that sharply.
Ivy looked horrified, but under the circumstances, she didn't take it to heart. Arizona took hold on Ivy's hand and led her to a storage cupboard.
"You hide away in there and you stay until I come back for you. I'll come back, I promise:" Arizona whispered, she kissed Ivy on the forehead and locked her in the cupboard.
Then there where more gunshots. Closer this time, and a lot louder.
Ivy saw the door be unlocked, it was Arizona, screaming at Ivy to run, and run she did, faster than she ever had done before. But not in the direction of safety, In the direction of the operating theatres, Ivy was about to do something very very stupid, but she wanted to be armed when she did it. Scalpel vs. gun, Ivy knew who would win, but there was a chance, and Ivy felt she had to take it. Ivy burst through the operating theatres and to her relief they where empty. She rummaged around on the table next to the bed, and found a scalpel. Perfect.
Ivy walked onto the deserted Children's ward. She heard another gunshot. A lot louder than they where before. Then she set eyes on the gunman, she could tell he was a raving loony just by looking at him, he didn't have to open his mouth to prove it. He spotted Ivy, and pointed the gun at her. Ivy was terrified, but she now had 2 options, it was too late to turn back, talk her way out of it, or die.
"This is a children's ward." Ivy called down the hallway.
"And your a child. You shouldn't be in this hospital, they're crap. Get out and go to one where they know what they're doing!" He yelled at Ivy. She was slightly confused.
"I'm Ivy, what's your name?" Ivy said, softening her tone.
"Mike. Mike Patrick." He replied, slowly lowering the gun to his side.
"They killed my son." Mike said, his eyes filled with rage, instead of with tears.
"Tell me what happened, my sister works here in the hospital, and her wife works in this ward. I can help." Ivy asked, trying to reassure herself as much as the man.
"They killed my boy." He repeated.
"They let him die, they stood there and let him die. They need to learn how it feels to stand there and be able to do nothing but watch someone else take away a life." Mike added, Ivy didn't know what was more scary, this man or the fact that she had charged into this situation head first.
"So you're planning to kill someone, because they couldn't save your son?" Ivy questioned, putting the pieces together.
"They could save my son! They just didn't! They stood there and watched, while he slipped away." Mike yelled.
Ivy took a few cautious steps up the corridor towards the man. She had the scalpel concealed safely behind her finger.
"The team would have done everything they could. They always do, I promise you." Ivy said, taking a few more steps, she was now stood within feet of the man. She caught sight of Arizona out of the corner of her eye. She was tied up and gagged, along with all the other staff, and she appeared to have a cut about her eyebrow, but at least she was safe.
"Who are the others that came with you?" Ivy asked.
"They're just friends. They're unarmed, they won't do anything." Mike responded. A weight lifted off Ivy's shoulders, that meant her sister was safe.
"I'm sorry." Mike said, raising the gun. Ivy pounced on him, and dug the scalpel as deep as she could into is right shoulder. She hit an artery, blood began to spray out of his shoulder and hit the ceiling.
Arizona had her eyes shut tight. She couldn't watch. Ivy turned and ran, ran for her life. But she want quite fast enough.
The gun went off. A single shot. Ivy's right side exploded.
Ivy remembered looking up at Arizona, before drifting into a numbing sleep.
Hours later, a screaming match between Callie and Arizona could be heard coming from the side room where the young hero was recovering.
"YOU WHERE SUPPOSED TO MAKE SURE SHE NEVER LEFT THE WARD!" Arizona yelled, she wanted to blame anybody but herself for what had happened to Ivy, because deep down she felt it was her fault.
"YOU SHOULD HAVE LOOKED AFTER HER." Callie screamed,
"YOU WHERE THE ONE LOOKING AFTER HER!" Arizona yelled back.
"YOU SHOULD HAVE PROTECTED HER." Callie shouted.
"SHES NOT MY SISTER!" Arizona yelled in anguish.
"AND SHE NEVER WILL BE!" Callie screamed, sharply.
"Callie..." Arizona begged.
"GET OUT!" Callie yelled.
"Calliope..." Arizona pleaded.
"GO!" Callie said, turning away from Arizona and sitting in the chair at her sisters bedside. Arizona ran out of the room and locked herself in the on call room before having a complete breakdown, she couldn't stop crying.
Ivy came round for a few minutes shortly after.
"Did I do good?" Ivy croaked.
"You did good Angel." Callie whispered taking her hand and resting her head on the pillow next to Ivy's head.
"Sleep tight." Callie whispered.
