"I don't even know where to start."
Nico's head was tipped back against the couch, his eyes staring up at the ceiling. Tony stood in front of the couch, where he and Will both sat side-by-side. The rest of the Avengers plus Bucky sat around in a vague circle in the common area, waiting for an explanation.
"So start from the beginning," Nico said, sighing. Beside him, Will was looking down at his hands in his lap, fiddling with fingers.
"Oh, okay," Tony said sarcastically. "How about explaining how you got all buddy-buddy with the lady that just tried to kill us?"
Nico scowled. "First of all, she's not my buddy. Second of all, didn't you hear her talk about how pissed she was about my father locking her away in a cell for almost a millennia?"
Tony stopped his pacing to stare at Nico. "You know what? That's a great question. I did, actually, but from what I've heard, that would make your father almost a thousand years old!" He ranted.
"More like a million," Will muttered, and Nico subtly stepped on his toes.
"In order to explain that, first I'd have to tell you about her," Nico said, and Tony waved his hand in a 'go on' sort of gesture. Nico took a deep breath.
"Eris is the Greek goddess of strife, discord, contention, and rivalry. She is-" Tony cut off Nico off.
"Greek goddess? Thor, can we get a confirmation on that?" He asked, jerking his head over to look at where Thor was leaning against the window.
"The Greek Pantheon is not within our jurisdiction, but yes, they do exist," Thor said, looking a bit uncomfortable under Nico's intense gaze.
"So, you're telling me Norse and Greek gods exist? How do you guys not, like, constantly fight?" Tony asked, and Thor winced.
"Well, long ago, before my time, there was a great war between the Norse and Greek Pantheons," he began, and Nico and Will's eyes darkened. They knew this story. "Billions died in the conflict," he said somberly.
"Which side won?" Clint asked.
"Neither," Thor said, shrugging. "Eventually, both sides came to realize that they had lost enough people, and that if they didn't stop then, they wouldn't stop until one or both of the Pantheons was completely wiped out. They met and agreed to stay out of each other's Pantheons respectively."
"Wow," Clint muttered. Eventually, Nico cleared his throat, and everyone's focus shifted to him.
"Anyway," he said, still a bit aggravated with Stark for interrupting him. "Eris is also the proclaimed brother of Ares, the god of war. She used to hang around the battlefield after all the gods were done fighting and revel in the chaos and bloodshed of the aftermath. About the business with my father, around a thousand years or so, she sided with Ares and tried to dethrone him. As far as I know, they just wanted to stir some shıt up and cause another war." Nico finished, and there was a long silence.
"Wait," Clint said after a while. "That still doesn't explain how she could possibly know your dad in the first place, considering this all happened hundreds of years ago."
Nico and Will shared a look. If they told them about their identities, they would be potentially risking a leak, or, even worse, an uproar amongst the mortals.
Should we tell them?
I don't know! I'm a nurse, not a psychic. I can't predict how they'll react!
