"You're still here," Agent Prentiss looked at her in amazement, after she stepped through the big glass door into the hallway.
Y/N glanced at the clock on the wall at the end of the corridor and realized that she had been sitting in the hallway outside the BAU offices for 8 hours now. She herself hadn't noticed that she had been waiting for so long. "I like to wait. This job is definitely worth it," she said kindly.
"You should really go and come back tomorrow. As much as I admire your determination, I won't find any more time for you today." Agent Prentiss looked at her watch.
„I honestly don't have a problem waiting. I have enough things to do here. If I really want something, I can be very vigorous and patient ." Y/N sad, smiling at her hopefully soon to be boss.
This morning, when she arrived at the job interview for a vacant position at the FBI's most popular unit, the hallway was flooded with experienced applicants. If she had counted correctly, only four of the 23 people had made it inside Emily Prentiss' office to a conversation with her, who was head of the BAU. Little by little the impatient agents left without even finishing the first phase of the application process and didn't even talk to unite chief Prentiss. Y/N was the only one left. It was clear by the end that she was the only one lacking experience.
After graduating University where she had completed her studies in communicative sciences and had attended several seminars on psychology, forensic sciences and criminology, Y/N had been approached and recruited by the FBI. She had completed her training in Quantico with excelling results and was now in the process of applying for her first job at the FBI. It was rather uncommon that an agent without any previous professional experience apply for such a highly respected position. But ever since she had dealt with the FBI and crime, she admired the Behavioral Analysis Unit. From the beginning, she wanted to be part of their work. Even though the chances of a newcomer, without any reference, were rather slim. When Y/N set her mind on something, she held onto it and did everything she could to not let it go.
"You don't have any documents or anything else with you," the agent noticed.
Y/N laughed and just tapped her head with two fingers: "Everything in here".
Agent Prentiss's phone beeped, she looked at it and then turned back to Y/N. "You're the communications scientist, aren't you?" Y/N nodded. "Okay, well, then we might need your help. We have a new case, are you interested?" The brunette raised an eyebrow and put her right hand on her hips. Y/N jumped out of her chair and nodded eagerly. "Of course, Agent Prentiss, I would love to help."
In the room, Y/N felt a bit lost and did not quite know what to do with herself. So she stayed in the background. The team members had all gathered around the round table and Penelope Garcia, their technical analyst, introduced the case. Y/N tried not to stand out, keep a low profile, hold back, be quiet and observe everything so she wouldn't disturb the others. It seemed as if they hadn't even noticed her yet, or as if they were simply ignoring her presence. But that didn't bother her. She preferred to observe the situation before getting involved . She didn't know the members personally yet, only their personal files and stories about them. Her plan was to first understand who she was dealing with.
"Okay, if there are no more questions, then this should be everything. Agent Y/N will assist us in this case. Wheels up in thirty ." After Emily Prentiss left the room, the others on the team gradually introduced themselves to her. They were a little restrained towards her, which did not surprise her. She was the new one to take Tara Lewis' place, who had left the team a few weeks ago. As far as she heard, the BAU was a sworn-in team, some of whom had known each other and collaborated for more than 10 years nom. Something which was rare at the FBI. Y/N was a threat, a change, and had to prove herself first. In addition, she was considered very young, being only 26 years old. Her only welcome came from Penelope, who wrapped her arms around her without warning.
Y/N was lucky, she still had a packed bag in her car from the days when she worked as a journalist's assistant during her studies. She often had to travel around spontaneously in order to help the journalist capture the best and most current stories. So it happened that 30min later she was on her way to Minneapolis with the BAU. They used their own jet, where they talked about the case. Something she definitely hadn't expected that morning, but could get used to. She was both excited and full of anticipation.
Four women were missing at different intervals. Two bodies had already been found in an adjacent wooded area. Each of the missing and dead women looked remarkably similar. All of them had long, blonde, wavy hair and blue eyes. You could tell them apart only if you looked close enough. They were all single and in their mid-twenties. The unsub undoubtedly had a type, and Y/N happened to match that extremely well.
