Chapter 10: The Odds of Smoking Passively.

After I made omelettes for all of them, they didn't seem too pleased. It was the only thing that I could make. Regardless of their unwillingness, they ate what I made. I think it was mainly because they couldn't order and get the delivery in time because of how far we were.

Around 11, they all went to sleep. Everyone seemed pretty tired from the car ride. I was tired too but I couldn't sleep. After an hour of twisting and turning and changing sides on the bed, I gave up. I sat up.

I grabbed my phone and started aimlessly scrolling through Instagram. Then without thinking, I searched for Nathaniel's account. I scrolled through his account, being careful as to not like anything. He had a lot of followers. But, there were around hundred posts only, more than me, but very less than Cassidy. I wondered what kind of a person he might be.

Would it be in his personality to tell his friends what sort of weirdo I am and make fun of me? Is he the type of person who calls everyone cute? Could I stop thinking about him? No.

I sighed. I need to talk to him and sort things out. There's not much to sort anyways, it'll be a small talk.

To kill my time and get him out of my head, I went to the bathroom to wet my hair. I saw this post earlier where a woman did heatless curls by braiding her hair, Dutch style. I always wanted to braid my hair like the girl in the post but I had never succeeded.

After wetting my hair, I came back to the room. I switched on my lights and sat in front of the mirror. I combed my now wet hair like the video on YouTube instructed me to do and went on with the process of amateur braiding, undoing my hair multiple times and taking a trip to the bathroom to wet my hair again because my hands couldn't accomplish the feat in time.

By the time I was satisfied with what I did with my hair, it was almost three in the morning. Three in the morning but I still couldn't sleep. The thing that was worse than this was that my phone wasn't charged.

So, I decided to work on my real life crush problem that I was doing at the back of my diary.

I made all the possible cases and found out the probability of Nathaniel liking me. Considering the scenario where he could be bisexual, or straight, I was certain that, with my limited knowledge of course, it will be between 0.25 to 0.33.

Although the probability was below 0.5, I couldn't ignore it. If an event has a probability, no matter how small it may be, it can happen. I had forgotten to switch on the plug when I put my phone to charge earlier -before moving on to my real world crush problem - so it was basically dead. I sighed and decided to get some fresh air. I remembered seeing a balcony like area earlier, so I went in that direction.

When I reached there I saw Nathaniel going to light a cigarette. He must heard my footstep because he asked me, "Are you planning to stand there forever?"

"If you're going to light that cigarette then, yes." I replied. He was staring at the sky when I said that he turned around and looked at me. For some reason I felt the need to explain my answer, so I said, "I mean, I don't want to smoke passively. It is dangerous for health."

I think I saw him roll his eyes at my response, but the next thing he did was to keep the cigarette and the lighter down on the deck chair placed in the balcony. As he did, I moved towards him. I stood next to him, keeping a distance of almost 1 foot between us, and stared at the sky like he was doing.

He turned his head to my side and asked, "so, you really can't sleep, huh?"

I shook my head. "Wait, you can't sleep either?" I asked happily. I shouldn't be happy at someone's sleeping cycle or in my case no cycle, but I was glad that in this house someone was awake at this hour, like me.
