Donny picked me up at eight, looking dashing in a suit I'd seen him wear to work before. He wore the same cologne from this morning and his eyes sparkled again when he saw me.
I couldn't help blushing. Sure he looked at Sheila that way, but he's never looked at me that way. I had to remind myself of how he'd only nodded at my body. I wanted to enjoy the attention while I could.
"You look amazing, as always." He leaned in and nuzzled my neck.
It tickled and I giggled. He pulled away with a confused look.
I didn't know what to say. Why did Sheila have to have a neck that wasn't ticklish? I gave him what I hoped was a teasing smile and that seemed to please him.
We took an Uber to a ritzy restaurant I had never dreamed of going to. I didn't like to splurge.
Donny held out my seat for me and pushed me up to the table before leaning down and placing a kiss on my cheek.
The waiter was pleasant as he told us the specials. We ordered and Donny started up the conversation.
"So I saw that Marci showed up. She must have felt better."
"Yeah. I guess so."
"So, when I transfer to Haulding & Porter, we can finally come out."
My heart started it's pounding. Was I about to hear all the secrets? "When will that be?"
"I told you I'm aiming for two months. But I might be able to do it in one."
"Sorry. Guess it slipped my mind."
"Or you're just impatient." He flashed me a heart stopping smile. "I want to get things going sooner too. I can't wait to be open about us."
"Me too." I couldn't help the bashful look I gave him.
We talked some more about his plans once he transferred and my plans at my current job.
"Well, I'm helping Sh...I'm running the Bronson account." I picked up my wine, hoping he didn't catch my slip.
"I know. Didn't I tell you that I'd get him to pick you this time?" He didn't seem upset at my obvious lack of knowledge.
"Yes. And I had full faith in you. I just felt it had to be said."
He chuckled a little. "You're acting different today."
"How so?" Fear struck me.
"Certain things you've said. The way you say it." He had an unnerving smirk on his face that I still found attractive.
"Oh. I didn't realize. Maybe it's...close to that time." I couldn't think of anything else to say and felt heat rise to my face.
He choked on his wine. Grabbing his napkin, he dabbed at his chin while giving me yet another baffled look.
"See? You've never been so vocal about stuff like that." He shook his head.
I dreaded telling him the truth, but at this point I felt like that's all I could do.
He surprised me though. "Sheila, I love you. You never cease to amaze me. That's why I wanted to ask you something."
I shut my mouth. I wanted to know what he was going to ask. It was way more important than my confession.
"Will you move in with me?" I could see the hope in his eyes.
"Yes!" I squealed, excited.
But for who? If Sheila and I switched back, I wouldn't be moving in with him, Sheila would. And what if she wasn't ready for that step in their relationship? And wait. I said yes and I don't even know Donny on an intimate level.
He had me in his arms, kissing me, my body pressed against his. He felt so good, strong, and we melded together perfectly.
I decided it wouldn't be the end of the world. I would get to know him and if Sheila and I did figure out how to get back to normal, there was no way she'd be mad at me for saying yes. I mean, the guy was pretty amazing.
After dinner and dessert, we went walking. Hand in hand, he brought up where we'd live.
I laughed at him. "I thought you wanted me to move into your place?"
"Well, yeah. But I know that you prefer your part of town." He rolled his eyes.
I laughed again. "Yes." I wasn't sure if they'd had a conversation like this before so it seemed easier to go along with his suggestion.
"There's an apartment on Lombardo that I want to go look at. I want you to go with me. Tomorrow night? "
"Yeah. Definitely. " I nodded in agreement and gave his hand a squeeze.
He walked me to Sheila's apartment after we walked and talked a while longer. From our conversation, I learned that he had an older sister, two nephews, and his parents were celebrating their forty-fifth wedding anniversary in a week. And of course, I was going. He had just verified that I remembered.
"Night." He stood very close to me. While it had unnerved me a little before, now I felt comfortable, as if I belonged with him.
"Night." I breathed and our lips met. I'd never felt anything for any man before. But he made so many emotions go crazy. I found myself looking forward to apartment shopping with him.
"I love you, Sheila." He rested his forehead against mine.
"I love you, Donny." Why was it so easy to say that?
