The rich and comforting smell of coffee filled the noses of Evangeline and Carter as they entered a small coffee shop a couple blocks from the ice skating rink. After Evangelines outburst due to Carters outburst he decided to take her to a near by coffee shop so Carter could explain why he had acted like that. Evangeline and Carter both ordered a plain coffee and sat down. She let out a chuckle as he sipped his coffee and scrunched up his nose. Evangeline pointed to a table with different types of milk as well as sugar packets and utensils. As Carter went to add stuff to his sugar she sipped it. She never understood how people could just add stuff to the coffee, it just doesn't taste the same. "I don't know how you drink that" Carter said as he took a seat in front of the girl. "I don't know how you drink that" Evangeline  pointed to the mug in the males hand.

"I'm sorry for how I acted back there. My old pair skating partner and I had a falling out. Me and her...We dated and that, well she was angry about it mostly."

"why?" Evangeline asked.

"she, Kelly, was upset that we trained all the time. We were either working on perfecting our lifts and jumps, working out, or working on technique. Don't get me wrong, she loved skating. What bothered her was that we didn't spend time together outside of this. We didn't go on dates, we didn't hang out together. She hated that so after a while she broke up with me. Realized she wanted freedom, She didn't want to feel held down by anything. So she packed her bags and left. Haven't heard from her since."

"Carter i'm so sorry. I understand though, I had trouble when I was younger I couldn't hang out with my friends...I got asked out and I couldn't go. I had to stay and train. so I took some time off, but I realized it wasn't what I wanted. I loved hanging out with them but I wasn't missing out on anything. I realized I loved skating its what I wanted to do."

"So what stopped you?"

"Hey this isn't about me here. we are talking about you."

"Right, so once she left. I started got into habits. I started using..."

"D-drugs?"

"Yeah, I don't anymore. Brian helped me stop. He has been bugging me about trying to find me another pair skater. like you said you realized you love it. So did I, but I'm scared it'll happen all over again and will fall back into that, ya know"

"I get that, but I can assure you. That won't happen, and if you really love it you shouldn't worry about. Focus on what you love."

"Your right...so what do you say. you wanna be my partner?"

"As long as you don't drop me again"

"No promises"

"haha very funny. why don't you head to the rink i'm gonna walk. I want to call my mom too, I haven't checked in with her today yet and she is probably freaking out"

"alright, be safe" Carter stood up and made his way out of the coffee shop, getting into his car and heading over to the rink.

Evangeline pulled out her car and called hotch.

"Hotchner speaking"

"Hey Hotch, It's Phillips. I got some information. Carter mention a partner and girlfriend named Kelly, could be the vic. She apparently got annoyed with the constant training of this lifestyle and wanted freedom so she left. Him and the town, Carter says he hasn't heard from her since. After that he began to use...He is clean now thanks to brain but I thought you should know."

"That is really helpful Phillips, thank you"

"Of course"

"When you are done for the day maybe head over here and we can catch you up to speed"

"Cool sounds like a plan. I have to f=go work on some stuff with Carter first so I'll be around later."

"Ok Phillips, stay safe. if he is our unsub you have to be careful" With that hotch hung up and it left Evangeline wondering. If he was the unsub, why did he apologize to her, why did he open up...maybe he was opening up to become close to her...to kill her. She pushed that thought out of her mind and got up heading out of the coffee shop and started waking to the rink.

sorry for the short chapter, I really wanted to get this out today, and I didn't feel like making a normal 1,000 word chapter. Should I keep doing 1,000 word chapters or more shorter ones?
