Twenty minutes later Sarah, Lukas and I were sitting in her study looking online at a celebrity spotting website, whilst Alan finished the washing up, only too happy to steer clear of the drama. All I knew about Jason's ex-wife was she was called Karina, and they'd broken up after his infidelity. What I didn't know was his ex-wife was actually Karina Di Vita, not one for celebrity culture Lukas explained she was once the golden girl of Italian music, oh and apparently the very beautiful ex of my sort of boyfriend!
She had a very big career in the early noughties, when she met and fell in love with an events photographer at Paris Fashion Week - enter Jason, married four years before he left her heartbroken.
"Oh my god" I gasped as I read her bio. She was perfect, tall, skinny, blonde, yes certain parts were enhanced but she looked like she'd just stepped off a runway. Sarah clicked back on to the gossip site, there they were, Jason and her sitting across from each other in a restaurant, all smiles. A source close to the couple said the time apart really helped things, Karina is sure she can have both her career and her man back by the end of the year! It read.
"Sophie, I'm so sorry, I told you he was no good" Sarah said as she rubbed my arm.
"Maybe it's just business Soph, plus who said exes can't be friends?!"
"Don't even try Lukas!" I cried "How many of your ex's are you still friends with?! You'd of thought when mentioning her he'd have dropped in who she really was - I told him everything about me!" All those evenings back at his seemed fraudulent somehow now, I needed to go home.
"I'm sorry to spoil the evening Sarah, but I've got to go home. Thanks for bringing this to my attention." With that I collected my stuff and rushed out the house, swiftly followed by Lukas, tears streaming down my cheeks.
~
Hey, I've tried calling you several times tonight, are you ok?
Miss you Red xxx
I threw my phone on the bed; it had been three days since Sarah had shown me the pictures, he'd tried calling, texting, emailing. I didn't reply to one. Instead I searched the web. Well they really were the golden couple back in the day. The web was full of pictures of them, on beaches, at premiers, their wedding photos sold to some Italian tabloid, then most recently them in NYC in the restaurant.
"You do know there could be a completely other side to this don't you?" Lukas asked one night. "I mean it's not like there are pictures of them cavorting on a beach now - these are ancient history Sophie. You need to speak to the guy!"
"No. I don't want anything to do with him!"
"Yeeeah, that's why you're glued to that trashy gossip site," he snapped down the lid of my laptop and took it with him into his room. "I'm confiscating this until further notice!" he shouted over his shoulder
"Sophie what's going on? It's been over a week and you've not replied to anything. Is everything ok? Please pick up. I've called Sarah at the office and she's said you're still at work, but won't tell me anything else. Come on baby, have I done something? Did you get the flowers I sent you? Brad Paisley 'Perfect Storm' came on the radio today reminded me of you - I'm even starting to like him - look what you're doing to me! Please call me back, I miss you. Bye"

"Morning Sarah," I said as I walked into her office to bring her a coffee.
"Morning, are you all ready for the party tomorrow night?" Oh shit, the works Christmas party - in my reverie of the past few weeks I'd forgotten all about it.
"Oh, I don't think I'm going to go. Not really in the party mood you know."
"Come on Soph you have to go, its mandatory all staff must attend! Plus I've got a friend I'd like you to meet, I'm not saying you're going to go and marry him, but just give him a chance!"
"Look what happened that last time I gave someone a chance! Look I'll come - but no dates!" I may as well have spoken to the wall.
Lukas helped me get ready for the party; he curled my hair into ringlets, and added a bit of sparkle to my eye make-up. I wore a red dress I'd brought a while back that was always a little too tight, but thanks to the drama of the past few weeks I'd missed meals, the reward fitting into this little number and not looking half bad. It finished just above my knees, and had a plunging neck line.
"Girl you look fierce! A right sexy Santa! Now come on, dance with me!" He turned up the radio, and began dancing the Kelis's 'Milkshake'
"Are you sure you can't come with me?" I asked hopefully
"Afraid not, I'm meeting Arthur tonight and he's going to show me his Excalibur! Now dance woman!" he demanded, grabbing me by the hand and spinning me underneath his arm.
Arriving at the venue, I immediately spotted Sarah standing with a man that clearly wasn't Alan. She soon noticed me and dragged the poor blonde bloke over in my direction.
"Sophie! You look gorgeous! Wow! This is Greg, Greg this is Sophie! Oh look there's Dennis from accounts I best go say hello, have fun you two!" I watched her scurry away, not to Dennis from accounts, but to the bar - typical!
"Erm hi, I'm Greg and so sorry about Sarah, she's been begging me to meet you for a while!" he said in a sheepish Scottish accent reaching out his hand. He was tall with dirty blonde hair average build, not unattractive, but not Jason.
"Ha I know what you mean, shall we get a drink?" I stopped a waiter and took two glasses from his tray "Cheers" I said raising my glass.
A bell went to signal dinner was ready to be served and we were all escorted into a large hall that resembled something out of Harry Potter, tables flowing down the length of the hall.
"Looks like we're sitting together" Greg spoke into my ear whilst looking at the seating plan - what were the odds?
"So what is it you do?" I asked once we were sitting at our table.
"I'm a builder; I'm currently working on something in the South Bank..." Suddenly the room slowed down, walking in the doors was Jason - he wasn't due back for another two weeks. He was wearing a black suit and tie, hair swept back into a ponytail looking better than ever before, my heart banged in my chest. He was scouring the room, when his eyes met mine then swept to the Scot sitting next to me several looks passed over his face. A man came up and shook his hand and led him to a seat two tables over, his eyes never leaving me.
"Sophie?"
"What sorry, I just saw someone I used to know" I apologised
"Oh its ok, so what do you do when you're not at work?" he asked the conversation went on back and forth throughout dinner, nonsensical conversation, could feel Jason's eyes on me the whole time, my pulse going ten to the dozen.
After dinner a band started to play, and people got up to dance. I looked up to see the Adonis staring directly at me; he stood and started to make his way over.
"I love this song, want to dance?!" I blurted out, before he had a chance to respond I grabbed Greg's hand and pulled him onto the dance floor. The last thing I wanted to do was talk to Jason. Looking over my shoulder I could see him standing by my table a stern look on his face. He straightened his tie, and made his way over - shit.
"Erm Greg, I'm just going to freshen up, I'll be back in a minute" I forced a smile and bolted out of the hall.
Halfway down the corridor a hand gipped my elbow. I spun on my heels - I didn't have to guess who it was.
"Who the hell is that chump?"
"Excuse me?!" I said turning to face him.
"Your lanky blonde who is he? Is that why you've been avoid me, you've left me for a gangly surfer wannabe?!" anger and hurt filled his voice.
"First off," I bit back "take your hands off me" his arm dropped by his side. "And secondly you have a bloody nerve; I'm not the one who's been cavorting around New York City with my ex-wife!"
"Cavorting? What?"
"Don't worry I saw the pictures online, you and your ex-wife, that ex that happens to be bloody Karina Di Vita!"
"Excuse me Miss, is there a problem here?" a waiter asked as he passed us in the corridor
"No, we're fine" I managed, looking Jason in the eyes "we're done here"; I walked into the restroom and leant against the wall, the marble cold on my skin.
"We're far from bloody done!" the door swung open revealing a steaming Jason, God even angry he looked gorgeous - stop it Sophie! He locked the door behind him, and stared at me.
"I don't know what pictures you think you saw, but nothing happened - I swear to you. Yes I saw her and we had lunch, but that was it. She was at a shoot I covered; when we were done we had a lunch that lasted all of an hour. I know I didn't message a lot but I told you I was working" He took a step towards me. "I never told you who she was, because it's not important, she's in the past"
"Well, she's clearly not in the past since you met up with her!" I snapped.
"Look, how things ended it was my fault, I cheated, and I feel bad about that. I feel like I owe her. We had lunch - it meant nothing and nothing happened. I told her about you, about us! She's with someone else too! I came back early to surprise you and see what was going on here -I'm not the one who turns up to a works party with some other guy for all to see. You're meant to be my girl Sophie; you are mine, not his!" he grabbed me around the waist, and yanked me forward into his kiss. I tried to push him away but he held me by the back of my neck deepening the kiss. "God I've missed you Red, you're mine, and I'm yours" he growled into my mouth.
I managed to untangle myself from his encirclement, what was he doing to me? "I need to get back, Greg will be wondering where I am", I said breathlessly, I turned to unlock the door but he grabbed me from behind and lifted up the hem of my dress. Sliding one hand down into my underwear he started to move his fingers, I let out a moan of pleasure.
"You were where you belong, with me, god you're so wet Sophie" he circled his fingers around my clit, my body betraying me, my hips jerking to meet his hands. "Put your hands up on the wall, spread your legs" he commanded - I did as I was told. I heard him unzip from behind me, he grabbed my hips and pulled me back onto him, a hiss escaping from his lips.
"There's only you Sophie" he groaned as he thrusted into me, I reached behind with one hand and pulled him down to my lips by his hair. He steadied himself with one hand on the wall, and found my clit again with the other and began to encircle it with dexterity.
"Come with me baby" he groaned into my neck as he picked up the pace and started sucking on my neck.
I couldn't hold back the wave any longer and with one more flick of his fingers I was done. "Who do you belong to" he groaned as he found his release.
"You, oh god you!" I panted.
"And I you" he trailed kisses down my neck as he pulled out of me; I turned to face him as he licked my juices from his fingers. "I've missed the taste of you Sophie; now let's go home, we've got some catching up to do"
I quickly straightened myself up, he planted a kiss on my temple, his scent filling my head, how I'd missed him. I unlocked the door, took his hand and went outside for a cab, completely forgetting I'd left Greg inside.
~
We spent that weekend at his, not leaving the bed except for bathroom breaks and food - we soon grew tired of going to the kitchen so he brought an arm full of supplies back to the bed.
We spoke more about Karina and his marriage. He had been the guilty party and had cheated, for which he was sorry, but things hadn't been right for a while - not that that was a valid excuse.
"What makes us any different?" I asked gesturing between him and me with a spoon that I was using to feed us both strawberry ice-cream whilst sitting cross legged on his bed
"I have a feeling about us; I've never felt this with anyone else, every time I touch you I feel alive, don't tell me you don't feel it too" he took the spoon full of ice cream and put it in his mouth, leaning across for a kiss, sharing the icy goodness with me.
Following his lead I picked up the tub, pushed him back on the bed, and sitting astride him poured some onto his torso. His body jumped and a deep rumble of laughter left his mouth. "Well aren't you a kinky one Miss Rogers" he laughed.
"Oh baby you have no idea!" I started up by his neck and kissed and licked my way down his body taking in the icecream I'd pored over him. "I hope these sheets weren't expensive!" I joked
"Fuck the sheets, just keep going!" he groaned lifting up his hips. His desire evident for me to see, I took him in my hand and started working it up and down his shaft, trailing my tongue from the base to the tip underneath on his ridge. "Oh, fuck! What are you doing to me Sophie?!"
Spurred on by his approval I moved my hand faster, firstly kissing his tip, tasting the salty pre-come, and then taking him in to my mouth fully. I loved the power I seemed to have, being here with him, I felt like I was blossoming at long last, he made me feel alive. I took him deeper, him hitting the back of my throat.
"Soph, I'm going to come, stop now or I won't be able to hold back" There was no way I was stopping, I wanted him to come inside of me, "Oh fuck me...you are such a dirty mix...Soph...ohh!" he hips jerked up and shudders ran through him as he emptied himself into my mouth. I swallowed all he had to give me. He pulled me up to his chest and kissed the top of my head, his hair falling over my face. I could lie here all day.
"You know," he broke the silence, circling his fingers on my bare arm "I didn't lie when I said I've been listening to that Paisley guys stuff, I even looked up that Kip guy, and that Billy you're obsessed with. I have to say I think you like them rough and ready, this little shy girl likes her bad boys!"
"Ha-ha, why do you think I like you?" I replied winking and trailing a finger over his stubble, kissing his jaw
"You mean it's not for my sparkling personality?!" he asked in mock horror.
We went into work together Monday morning; I didn't see much of him as he was busy covering Christmas events throughout the city. I caught Sarah as she passed my desk to go on lunch, "Can I have a quick word?"
"Sure what's up?" she responded curtly
"I just want to say I'm sorry for running out on the party and Greg like that on Friday. I didn't get his number, I was wondering if you could apologise to him for me. I'm sure he's lovely but he's not for me."
"I thought as much. I just hope you know what you're doing Sophie." with that she headed towards the lift.
Later that week, I thought it was time to face the music and finally take Jason home to meet Lukas properly.
