The story I'm about to tell is not mine. Her name is Sara.Sara Maria Joseph.
"Mom.Dad.Have you guys been fine?Guess what?I got some roses for you two.Dad,you didn't forget about today again, right?Mom,I really do crave for your special anniversary cake.I tried my hand at baking it.You know,it turned out ash-black.I think it's just over-baked,not burnt at all.I did good, right?Mom,why don't you say something? You're not being lovey-dovey with dad over there, right?Fine,I'll leave you guys then. You guys enjoy your day but I'll make you guys pay for this next time I come, alright?Bye.Wow!You guys are too much. Not even a bye for me."
Tears rolled down her cheeks as Sara told that though she could feel her fake lips enacting an even more pseudo smile. She left the flowers on the tombstone and stood up to leave,But her trembling knees wouldn't help nor her cold and numb feet would take a step.It was the same as five years ago.The happenings that day still play like a tragic movie before her tear-filled eyes.
Five Years Back...
Sara was one of those kids who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She had everything she could ever have.Above all,she had the most loving parents of all.Her family was small but the happiness was indefinite. Her father was a business tycoon.Quite successful at it.But they were unlike those typical business families who are too obsessed with money and fame. They lived like people of the peoples. But that didn't stop her father from gaining enemies in his work arena.Everyone around them were quite envious of the success and joy of their family. She thought that she was the luckiest person ever on earth. But again, that feeling didn't last forever. It was overturned upside down within less than an overnight. She wished that the world didn't teach her the lesson of epistemology of loss. For the first time in her life, she tasted the bitterness of losing and saw the ugliness of truth. It frightened the life out of her.But not anymore. She's no more afraid of the truth because she's seen the ugliest face of it inside out.
"Sara,we'll drop you at on our way to work."
"Mom,please don't.I promised Martha that we'll go together and meet by the bridge at nine."
"Sweetheart, are you sure?"-Dad asked showing his adamant face over the crinkly newspaper that he was pretending to read very carefully until then.
"What,Dad?I'm just on ti....what?It's 8:50 already.I can't believe I actually wasted my time on you guys,good-for-nothing parents!I'm off."-She ran to the garage side before she finished saying that to get her bike.
"Sara,finish this toast first."
"No thanks,mom."-Sara shouted from the garage.
"Joseph,call her back."
"Honey,don't worry.She'll be back in 4,3,2.."
Before Joseph could complete counting down to 0,Sara was standing in front of him.
"What happened Sara? Why're you suddenly back?I thought you were leaving."
"You got me dad.Fine .I surrender. So all you want me to do is have this toast, right? Here you go!"Sara grabbed the half-eaten toast from the table and started stuffing it into her wide-open mouth.
"Take it easy,child."
"Mom,water..water please!"Sara said burping with vulgar pantomimes as she gulped down the toast which by then has turned as dry as desert sand.
Going straight to dad after she's done, she pressed him against the back of the sofa and asked,"Now what? You'll give me back the chain of my bike."
"No my dear. You got it quite wrong. You'll join our ride to your school."
"Gosh!Dad,you're 40 already.So stubborn!"
"Sara, your homeroom teacher called us yesterday. She told us that you got that scholarship you applied for the other day.She asked us to go to your school and meet with the principal to talk about it.We won't go if you don't want us to."-dad told this ,smirking in his usual way,ear twitched right at Sara.
