I open the door, surprised.

"Hi, Astor, I know it's sort of late and you may be studying. But, I wanted to ask you about an orchestra that's interested in you."
Conflicted but intrigued, I invite him in. I'm not sure if it's against rules or anything but oh well. We have a seat on the couch. "What kind of orchestra is it?"
"Well it includes brass, percussion, and of course string instruments. It's called MYO, Massachusetts Youth Orchestra. The ages range from 4 to 27. You'd have to audition and it's $30 a month." He shrugs.
"Uh, I'll have to think on that, I'm already apart of yours so wouldn't it be stressful? I'm not too good around unfamiliar people."

"I understand, you don't have to if you don't want, but I assumed instruments made you content with anything. Music is a very good outlet. Just keep me updated if anything changes in your decision. The deadline is in a month so you have plenty of time." He pats my knee and I look down smiling.
"I'll definitely think on it and ask my dad about it, I know he'd think well of it. Opportunity and such, but music is not the only thing I'd like to do."

"Oh?"
"Yeah! I want to be a homicide detective, which is why I'm focused on criminology. I have my whole life planned out! if it doesn't go the way I intend, not sure what I'm going to do." I laugh
"Well it's good a young person like you has a good head on their shoulders. I wish I was like you when I was in college, instead I was dumb, living life at parties, not paying attention to any work. Until, after my mom died..."
I sit up straight and cross my arms. I know it's about to get serious.

"... she had a heart transplant, and everything was fine, until the doctors did a wrong incision that ended her life. Before she died, she made me promise her to be the best man I could be. I've kept it ever since. It's been 7 years." He wipes his eyes.
I reach over and give him a hug, "Listen to me, you are strong. You did it. Your mom is so proud of you. Stick to everything you're doing that makes you happy because you deserve it." I stand up at the same time as him.

"Please don't tell anyone about my mom, you just have a strange aura around you. I feel like I can trust you with anything. It's weird. But, have a good night, see you in class for auditions tomorrow."
I walk him to the door, with the words "strange aura" lingering in my mind.
"Good night, prof."

I open and shut the door going to my bed. If my profesor and trust me with anything, no it can't be. He can't like me, I'm 18 and he's like 20 something. No, never. I'm overthinking it. It doesn't matter.
I turn on my ambience and slowly drift to sleep.
Overthinking turns into bad things, I'm gonna make things awkward in class tomorrow I feel it, why do I do this to myself.
