I came to slowly, first being aware of noise, voices murmuring. Then came feeling. There was a numb feeling in my shoulder, and a slight tugging sensation. I blinked my eyes open.

I was met with Grams stern expression. The tugging sensation on my shoulder ceased and Grams busied herself doing something to my shoulder.

"What....what are you...." I croaked out. She shushed me and continued working. I dared a look at my shoulder and saw her wipe a sterile cloth over some....stiches.

I laid my head back down. "Oh God..." I muttered. The bite.

Brian had bit me.

My mind whirled with too many troubling thoughts.

"I would have used magic, but I'm too weak right now. If you want to heal it with magic later, you'll have to do it yourself," My grandmother said, standing up and wiping her hands on a towel.

I was laying on my bed. I sat up quickly and looked at Grams as she started to walk out. "Grams! Wait! Can you...can you explain to me what...why it happened?" I asked, begging her with my eyes.

She looked back at me and sighed, walking over to the bed. She sat down next to me.

She was quiet for a moment, then, "Werewolves can sometimes find their mates...as in soulmate. And when they do, to show other werewolves that you're their's, they'll mark you. A love bite."

I was silent for several seconds, taking this in. "Brian marked me. When the werewolf curse was awokend in him, he marked me. We're...soulmates."

For some reason I just had to say this out loud, as if confirming it. It seemed to unreal to be true, yet crazier things have happened.

My grandma nodded, a weird look in her eyes. She patted my knee and went to walk out, stopping just before she closed the door. "We'll talk later, Katie. Just know that whatever happens, it'll work out in the end."

I scrunched my face up in confusion, but before I could ask her what she meant, she closed the door, leaving me alone.

Brian and I were soulmates.

Brian was a werewolf.

When am I going to wake up?

The door flew open and suddenly I was tackled in a bear hug. "Katie! Thank God you're okay!" Taylor yelled.

"Ow. Taylor. Arm. Ow," I complained. She let go of me with a sheepish smile.

"Sorry. I'm just really glad you're okay," She said sincerely. I smiled at her.

"I'm as good as I'll ever be," I said with a sigh, brushing away her pitying look.

"That's good. Because we have a lot to talk about," Said a new voice. I looked over to see Paige walking into the room. The way she moved frightened me. It just screamed paranormal. Her steps were placed exactly right so she made no sound on the creaky floorboards.

Must be a werewolf thing.

"Paige. You're still here. Great," I said sarcastically. She narrowed her eyes at me and I ignored the urge to flinch.

"You think I want to be here? I have to be. Orders are orders," She said. I rolled my eyed trying to act like I wasn't intimidated by her.

Truthfully? I think I may piss myself.

"We can talk later. Right now, I need to find Brian," I said, standing up. Paige and Taylor exchanged a look.

I looked back and forth between them. "What?" I demanded.

Taylor shook her head and looked at the floor while Paige just crossed her arms. Silence seemed deafining in this moment with only the heavy roar of the pouring rain outside.

I was about to ask what I was missing when I felt a warm feeling in my stomach. It spread throughout my body and my shoulder started to burn some.

"What the..." I muttered. I felt a tugging sensation to look out the window on the other side of the room.

Ignoring Paige and Taylor's stares, I moved across the room to the rain splattered window that looked out on the front yard.

The rain was pouring down in buckets and a man stood in the front yard, his back facing me.

Brian.

I touched the window as Brian started to walk across the yard towards the road.

He was leaving.

I flew out of the room leaving the girls stunned and down the stairs. Not wasting time on a jacket, I opened the front door and ran out onto the yard.

"Brian! Brian!" I called. He kept walking.

"Brain! Where are you going?!" I yelled. Finally, I caught up to him and made him stop.

He turned to face me, his expression blank.

"Brain, what's wrong?" I asked. We were both already soaked to the bone, our hair pressed flat to our heads.

He sighed and raked a hand through his hair, making it stand up. Then, he grabbed my hands and a spark raced up my arm.

"Katie, I need you to listen to me and try to understand when I tell you this," Brian began.

I swallowed. I didn't like where this was going.

"I'm a werewolf. Paige belongs to a pack in the area and I'm going to be staying with them for a while to learn how to deal with this. And..." He trailed off, taking a deep breath. I saw tears pool in his eyes.

I touched his cheek. "What is it, Brian?"

He took another shaking breath, closing his eyes at my touch. He lifted his hand and put it over mine, keeping my hand there.

"When I bit you, I felt the worst I've ever felt in my life. I still do. I will never be able to forgive myself for hurting you. I realize now that the only way to not hurt you is-" He stopped again, looking at me.

I shook my head, crying already. "Please, Brian. Please don't." My voice cracked with emotion.

"We can't be together, Katie. I love you so much and I couldn't live with myself if I hurt you again."

"No. Please. We can figure this out, Brian. Please. I love you."

He closed his eyes again for a moment, then opened them, his blue eyes brighter than ever.

"You have no idea how much I love hearing you say that. But I'm not human, Katie. I hurt people. I can't hurt you again," He whispered.

I sobbed.

He took my hand in both of his and pressed his lips to them. "Just remember that I will always love you," He whispered.

I couldn't speak because I was crying so hard. This couldn't be happening. Why was this happening?

He hesitated a moment, then pressed a kiss to my cheek, still holding my hand in his own. "Always," He whispered in my ear. I closed my eyes.

When I opened them, he was gone.

And in my hand laid the bracelet I got him.
