Tom was leaning on the long white fence with Jim and Harper, still waiting for John. They had been waiting for the older Johnson for about an hour or so, but Tom didn't mind. He enjoyed spending time with his best friend and Harper like this a lot, especially since it took his older brother forever nowadays.
Harper was one of John's good friends, and came over all the time. Jim came over pretty much everyday for the entire day, mostly to hide from his life at home. Mary Johnson welcomed both with open arms and was delighted that they came over so much, she had become like a second mother to both.
The thirteen year old sighed and once again glanced back up at the farmhouse, trying to look into John's room. The older brother was most likely making out with some new girl that he brought home, something that Tom had accidentally walked in on and had been scarred for quite some time afterwards.
"Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be back down soon," Jim comforted, placing a hand on top of his best friend's. A slow blush had climbed up the boy's cheeks, but Tom didn't seem to notice.
"I sure hope so," Harper grumbled, crossing her long arms, leaning forward so she won't fall off of her position on top of the fence and absently swinging her legs back and forth. "He's sure as hell taking a long ass time."
"Watch your language, there is a young child here," Jim teased, covering the ears of his best friend. Tom rolled his eyes, pushing away the other boy's hands, but still laughed along with the other two.
"Who do you think it is this time?" Harper asked with a sigh, gazing sadly and a bit longingly at John's distance bedroom window.
"Probably some random chick he met yesterday," the younger brother shrugged, giving the sixteen year old a sympathetic look. He and Jim had figured out that the girl had a major crush on John, but couldn't come out because he was always with some other girl.
A figure was seen running downhill toward the trio, followed by another. It was John and some light haired blue eyed random girl that he had started dating. The older Johnson had a red lipstick mark on his cheek, the same shade as the girl's lips. The three ignored that fact, plastering smiles on their faces and waving to the couple.
"Took ya long enough, we almost left for the creek without you," Tom teased, elbowing his brother.
"Well you might have to, me and Hannah have a date," John gave a lopsided grin, looking back at the girl who linked their arms together. They continued to walk past the three teens, giving a small wave. "But go on ahead, have fun!" John called back, leaving the fields.
"Wow," Harper scoffed, jealousy and a bit of sadness in her voice. "That son of a—"
"Careful," Tom warned, frowning. "He may be a dick sometimes, but he's still my brother. Look I know how you feel about—"
"No. No no no. I don't have any feelings for your brother," Harper interrupted with complete denial, but nobody believed her, not even herself. "So do you two dingos want to go down to the creek or what?"
"Race ya!" Jim shouted excitedly, racing down the hill along with Tom, Harper on their tail in seconds. They giggled and laughed the whole time, soon forgetting about John or anything else really.
Harper, Jim, and Tom were dangling their bare feet over the rushing stream, the occasional slight spray of water and soft breeze to cool them. Tom was in between the two, holding hands with both as Jim unbeknownst to the other two was trying his best not to blush a deep red when the other boy grabbed his hand.
They were currently sitting on a large sturdy log that hung over the creek. Trees lined either side of the long strip of water, the liquid running over rocks as small fish swam about in the cool water.
"I like it here. It's so scenic and peaceful," The oldest of the group sighed contently, leaning forward and stretching her hand down to feel the water spray her fingertips. After she said so Tom started to hum the Harry Potter theme song, soon joined by Jim, who then switched over to the Sherlock, doctor who, stargate and Star Trek theme songs. Harper glared at the boys but soon joined in, not a note off-key. Eventually the trio couldn't take it anymore and burst out with full body laughter, almost falling off and into the creek.
"Careful there sluggers," Harper finally managed to say, catching her breath, opening her arms and leaning towards the boys to steady them. "Don't want you falling in and getting soaking wet, I might get in trouble."
"Haha very funny," Tom rolled his eyes. "But hey thanks Harper, you're the best."
"Don't mention it," Harper smirked, noticing how Jim was blushing when Tom accidentally placed his hand on his and the way they looked at each other. She knew they were definitely crushing on each other hard, if only they could come out.....
