Mark woke up with one thought plaguing his mind. How and what would he get Haechan as a gift. He knew it could not be a bracelet like Jaemin's. The nymph deserved something of his own of course. Something just as magical and breathtaking as he.

He could perhaps get him something that was close to him, like a stone from the pond but Mark knew Haechan wasn't so fond of that tiny catchment. Maybe something to do with water then, not the pond but still aquatic. Although, where would he find such a thing? The lake perhaps? But his swimming skills are quite poor. If only he could get it from someone.

"Perfect!" Mark exclaimed, jumping up from the cushion he was sitting on under the rotunda in the south gardens. Renjun looked at the other with a cock of his head, his lips perviously preoccupied with reading the letters of a book to the prince mere seconds beforehand. Jaemin did the same, a slight smirk breaking through his smile.

"I'm assuming you're not talking about the Echoes, Mark." Jaemin chuckled.

"No, umm, sorry. I've got to go." Mark apologised before he left the two confused in the garden.

"Don't think he's going to go off somewhere and try to practise magic, do you?" Renjun laughed lightly, looking back down at the pages of the book. Stories upon stories about the Echoes and the spirits that were known to reside there. Jaemin had requested Renjun to get him a book about them but not many books about the Echoes existed. Yes, many books mentioned the mysterious place but none solely about the topic. However, Renjun searched and could only find one within the king's library. The king of course allowed him to take it, knowing full well the curious person behind Renjun's request.

"I honestly wouldn't be surprised." Jaemin replied, the two laughing before Renjun continued reading aloud.

"Long before the Battle for the Throne, there was another war known as the Separation. Unlike the Battle for the Throne, the Separation involved all kingdoms not just wolves. The Separation began with a spark of wicked envy. Spirits began disappearing, their blood split in a claim for justice.

A grand meeting was held with all leaders of each kingdom to confront the problem but nothing came out of it. No one knew how or what was taking the spirits. Chief Matalok, leader of the spirits and a kami himself begged his closest friends, the elves, for help. The elves came to Matalok's call and scattered throughout the White Forest in search for the accused. It took many nights and many spirits lives were taken in silence but the elves managed to capture a culprit. A human warrior. Matalok interrogated the man and found it was upon the warrior's king's orders to found and capture spirits. Enraged, Matalok went to the human leader, demanding an explanation and one he was given, 'Wolves have heightened strength, elves have remarkable agility, spirits have magic and us humans, we have nothing. If the kingdoms were to fall into war, humans would be demolished. You spirits, can bend the elements and manipulate time. I am just evening the playing field.'

Matalok engulfed in pain and hatred, then began to rain fire upon the humans. However, the humans did not have nothing. In fact, humans had always had an unfathomable hunger for knowledge and many of the other races admired them for their intellect. The humans had created weapons like none other. Strong and powerful weapons that brought down buildings with one blow and killed hundreds. Matalok called for the elves' help once again and they came for their friend, the fairies and the wolves along with them. The fawns fought by the humans' sides, believing that there was an unfair balance of power. Doing this, the fawns saw the sides of humans no one else had seen before. Terrified by this sight, the fawns withdrew from their alliance with the humans and fought against them.

Many lives were lost during the Separation, spirits the most. Matalok, lost and hopeless, fired one last blow upon the humans with the remainder of his strength. The winds went quiet and the waves still, like a crack of lighting, Matalok sent a crash of light at the humans, leaving only their dry bones in its wake including Matalok. The human leader surrendered and pleaded for forgiveness. The elves wanted to execute the humans and rightly so. However, the spirits wanted no more bloodshed. They banished the humans from their union and they were never seen again. The spirits, mourning and now on the verge of extinction, hid behind the mountains, the elves moving to reside at the very peak. Guarding their closest allies from any more harm and thus end of the Separation and harmony between all people." Renjun ended with a deep exhale as he sat staring at the book as if it were a shocking painting.
