"Adam!" I looked around the room with panic rushing through my body. What the hell happened? Everything around me went gigantic. The hole we fell into seemed even bigger. Then suddenly I felt something grab my shirt and I was picked up, dangling in the air and then, placed inside a ... pocket?
Wait, I recognised that smell. It's Adam! I'm in his front pocket? What the fuck is going on here? I looked around but everything was dark.
"Don't worry C, I've got you." His voice was so loud I had to cover my ears.
"Are you tall enough to climb up the rabbit hole?" I shouted back at him, but he shook his head, the motion almost made me fall out and I had to hold on to the fabric of his tunic. But my head still spun and I felt sick. "Stop doing that! I'll puke in your pocket!"
"Oh, sorry," he giggled and the motions of his chest made me jump up and down.
"Just fix this!!"
"Eat some of this." And then he poured some cookie crumbles into his pocket. As I took a small bite I grew a little, so I ate some more. Now I was big enough to sit on his shoulder.
"What about you? Maybe you'd shrink if you drink some tea?"
"But my fingers are too big? How can I pick up the cup?"
"Put me down, I'll hold it for you." And that's when I felt Adam's fingers carefully lift me up and place me on the table. I took the cup between both of my hands and then he lifted me to his lips. Poof, "How much did you drink?"
"All of it."
I peered down at the small figure who was standing by my feet. "Great.." I sighed, "now we're both small.
"At least we'll fit through the door now."
"Yeah, thank the goddess, mr optimist. But what if there's a flesh eating bunny on the other side?"
"Do we really have a choice? We can't climb up, can we?"
I sighed because we really couldn't. "Okay, let's do this."
"Wait! Give me some crumbles."
I searched the table and found a few, which he devoured and just like that he was my size. Which wasn't our true height but much better than before.
So, we climbed down the table hanging on the tablecloth and then down onto a chair. Carefully we slid down the leg and half an hour later we were back down on the floor.
"Okay, so we go through the door, find the bear and then try to find a way back home."
"Sounds like a plan."
The space seemed quite big now as we were much shorter and finding the door wasn't as easy as we'd thought. When we finally reached our destination we just stood there looking at the doorknob.
"Isn't it odd that after all that, growing and shrinking we ended up the perfect size to walk through this door."
"It's creepy," Adam agreed and rubbed the back of his neck.
"You wanna open it?" I glanced at Adam who kept his eyes locked at the golden knob with a thoughtful frown on his face.
"Not really, no."
"Well, fuck it..." I sighed and reached for it, "It can't be worse than to starve in here." As the door slid open a bright light shone from it and we had to cover our eyes.
"Come on!" To my surprise Adam grabbed my hand and held it tight as he led us through the door frame. The light was too bright and I had to keep my eyes closed as we walked through it. Please, no more falling. I thought to myself and squeezed Adams hand a bit harder and I felt his hand hold on to mine a bit tighter as response. "Don't worry C, we'll be okay."
As we walked through the light I felt the ground change. Suddenly it was soft and squishy and not hard and dusty. The air smelled of fresh air and... mushrooms? I opened my eyes and looked around.
We were standing on top of a huge blue mushroom which was growing in the strangest forest I've ever seen. But it seemed quite peaceful, insects were buzzing and there was a gentle breeze in the air.
"This place is amazing," Adam whispered to himself.
"Yeah, I just wish we were back to our normal size."
"Well, look around C, there's got to be a sorcerer here somewhere. Someone who can help us."
Magic, I muttered inside, I never really liked the thought of using it. "Let's hope it's a friendly one."
We jumped from one mushroom to the other until we were safe down on the ground.
"So which way?"
He looked right and shook his head, "I have a feeling we should go left."
"All right, left it is."
He looked at me with a raised eyebrow, "you actually agreed with me?"
"Don't get used to it," I snickered as I started walking.
The path was clear and strangely enough it wasn't big like everything else, even the grass was taller than us. I peered at the young man beside me, he still held my hand and I noticed how sweaty my palm was but he didn't seem to mind, or notice.
The path suddenly split in half and in the middle there was a big sign with arrows in both directions. Pointing left the sign read, Not this way.
And to the left were the letters, This way!
"That's a weird pair of signs don't you think?" I whispered with my eyes wide open.
"This entire place is weird," Adam agreed. "Let's go left."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I'm sure it's a trick."
I peered at him and shrugged, "you might be right."
"I'm always right," he chuckled, and pulled me with him as we took the left turn and soon I noticed the forest changed and got a bit more dark and gloomy.
"Hey Adam, you think Cindy fell into the hole as well?"
"No."
"No? I wonder what happened to her."
"Don't worry, she can handle anything."
"I know, but I looked everywhere and there was no trace of her."
"I know it's strange, but I don't think anything bad happened to her."
"I hope you're right," I sighed, regretting my wishes for a great adventure a few days ago.
The next few hours passed in a blur. We walked until our feet hurt but we never seemed to reach any type of destination. The forest looked exactly the same and I started to panic again, it felt as if we were lost on an endless path. "Adam, I think we're walking in circles."
"Yeah.. I noticed it too."
"So what now?"
"Well, we could ask him for directions."
"Who?"
"That pink striped cat," he said and pointed towards a tree.
