Nothing ever belonged to you even "you" will be returned

"Morning ma'am, A Miss Ja'far is here to see you."

"Let her up." I dropped the phone, relaxed my back and really looked at my own office, it has my name of the door. Ya Allah! My own name. No, I'm not even using Jada's office, I got mine and one very interesting thing? You can't just walk in the office and see me in my cubicle like before, the receptionist has to call me.

Everything seems surreal. I'm really doing it, Ya Allah! Alhamdulillah! My office was painted pure white, my oak desk was just like that of other department heads, only that I don't have enough space to bring my cushion and all.

I heard the knock, and calmly ignored.
"Can I come in?" Hanna whispered.
Haah! I thought but still gave no reply.

The door opened and she pushed shopping bags into my office. "I dropped at Big Mummys' to pickuyp your orders," she said.

That was a lie, actually! I haven't even ordered anything. I still didn't reply her, she looks like she was in mourning. I know that look, that's the-I'm-sorry-it-will-never- happen-again look and in most cases, it did happen again.

"Haba, Sis! I'm sorry, I wanted to tell you yesterday but I didn't know how to approach the subject. I'm really, really sorry," she pleaded.

I nodded in reply but still paid her no mind. She dropped the multiple bags on my desk, stopping me from reading what I was pretending to read since she had knocked and walked in uninvited.

"Sister, she scrunched her face Forgive me, I know I should have been the bearer of the news but how can I? I didn't want to watch you in pain. I'm sorry. Sister! Kuka zanyi fah. (I will cry). Forgive me, it will never happen again," she continued.

"Of course, it will never happen again. Oh! You even want it to happen again," I retorted.

"Haba! No, Sis," she jumped from the chair she had sat on uninvited. "I'm sorry. Please, forgive me. Please! I didn't want to hurt you, Mudassir has done enough."

I sighed, staring at her rubbing her hands together and pleading with her eyes.

"It's OK, apology accepted and you are forgiven."

She yelped a "Yes!!" and smiled at me "Please, can I hug you already?"
Before I could say No, she was barreling towards me and squishing me into a hug.

"I was going to say No, Hanna," I said, my voice muffled.

"I know," she whispered. "I would still hug you anyway. I'm truly sorry, Sis." she pushed back abruptly and looked me in the eyes. "You know I love you, don't you?"

"I know." I blinked. I know my eyes were glassy.

"Can I talk freely?" She asked after finally releasing me and sat on the edge of my desk. I rolled my eyes in response.

"Can I redecorate this office? Bitch! It's all white." she said cringing like she saw something scary.

"No, you can't," I said laughing.

"Why? It's your office, and why do you look like you own this damn building?"

I'm sure my laughter would be heard by anyone passing by so I covered my mouth, trying to hold it back.

"Are you mocking me?"

"I would never! See you wearing a leather trouser, fine wine! It suits you."

If I rolled my eyes one more time, it might just fall off.

"Demi?" Her face turned serious. "You are happy, and I'm happy the shenanigans you and my step brother had is over."

I raised a brow. "Have you been body snatched?"

"I asked to speak freely," she stood up. "I didn't wear my mourning clothes to come apologize to you, I also came to tell you what is on my mind and if our friendship destroys, our sisterhood wouldn't, right?"

"Insha Allah, it would never come to that. What do you want to say?"

She nodded and continued. "You and Mudassir were never meant to be. Don't talk, just listen to me. But I couldn't say anything because I felt I was the only one who could see it. You were not happy, I'm sorry. But you liked the security being with Mudassir brought. He was the perfect guy you wanted."

"What you are saying is not true," I interrupted.

"Shuush," she continued. "He called you Saima for three years in a fucking relationship! Wake up!!! You never called him a pet name either."

"That little thing?" I interrupted again.

"Little things matter, Saima. You guys were bossing your relationship. YOU," she pointed at me, "never kissed."

"You know it's not Islamic." I protested feebly.

"Spare me, Saima. And for 3years, Mallama, you never slipped?"

"I never slipped, Hanna." I puffed my chest.

"Ain't you just fucking perfect?" She replied in mockery. "If you were really in love, you wouldn't care."

"Love isn't madness, Hanna."

"True love is madness," she retorted.

"Say what you want, I don't care!"

"Remember Sarah?"
Sarah? Oh! I know Sarah. Hanna made sure of that every fucking time.

"Oh! I didn't tell you?" She did a million and one times.

"Her relationship of 5 fucking years, Ya Allah, ended late last year? She found her boyfriend pants down a day to their wedding. Turns out the bastard has being cheating all along. MEN!!" She spat

"O! M! God!" I feigned a surprised look.

"I know, right? Wait, I feel like I have told..."

"Told me before? Yeah! Just a million and one times and that made me uncomfortable till it didn't." I laughed at her silly self.

I heard a slight knock on my door, Manuel and Martin came in without waiting for a response, Chioma in toll.

"He's missing," Manuel said before I could ask.

"Who's missing?" They turned to look at Saima.

"Excuse us," Martin mumbled rudely to Hanna who quirked a brow.

"Hanna, zan kira ke, okay? (I will call you)"

She stood there, visibly swimming in her Abaya and mumbled a "Later.." before heading out.

The door clicked shut. Now, I felt uncomfortable sitting on my chair. I swiftly packed the shopping bags off my desk and put them on the floor.

"Who's missing?" I asked.
