Chapter 22: Big Reveal

Your POV

"Why did I do that?! I didn't mean it! I just...! Aaarrggh! Now he thinks I like him! I feel so bad!"
"Yeah, why DID you do that?! Idiot! Look just tell him the truth, he obviously knows already. He just wants confirmation. Besides he's like us so he won't run."
"But after what you did, he might be scared! I don't want to lose my only friend."
"You won't. He likes you too much. Just tell him. There's no point in hiding it and leading him on. I may not like him, but this is cruel."
"You're right."

Danny was already heading out. It was getting dark and I was sure his sister would be worried.
"Umm... Danny?" I quietly say. "I have to tell you something."
"Yeah?" He smiles.
"I..." My ghost sense goes off and I see that his does too.
"Do it before he leaves!"
I tried to continue but he cut me off.
"I really have to go, sorry. Tell me tomorrow."
"Wait, Danny! This is really quick! I just wanted to say that..."
"I'm sorry, (y/n), I really have to go." Danny ran off.
I growl in frustration. I transformed and followed.
"Hey, Phantom!" I shout. Danny stopped and look at me.

"Don't run away when I'm trying to talk to you!" I flew down and detransformed.
I saw the surprise and confusion in his eyes.
"You..." he muttered.
"I lied. I didn't want you to know so I told you I liked you, but I didn't want to lead you on."
"So, Sam was right."
"I'm not dangerous! I just... I didn't want to lose my only friend."
"You hurt so many people!"
I flinched. "I was scared and- and angry! Wouldn't you have done the same had it been your friend who was hurt?!"
"No! Sure I would be scared and mad but I wouldn't put others at risk for their safety! I can't believe it... this whole time..!"
"Danny," I reach out to him.
"No! Stay away from me and my friends!" I stood there in tears as he left.

"Umm, hello??? You've been staring at me for a while and there's a ghost I need to take care of." Danny said.
I was brought back to reality. I was still in my ghost form in front of Danny.
"Let's take care of the ghost and then I'll tell you."
"Tell me what?"
"Who I really am."

The ghost seemed to only be the Box Ghost, so this mission was easily handled. After trapping him in the thermos, Danny turned to me.
"Well?"
"Shut up. First off, I want to apologize for putting people in danger that one time."
"Oh... Don't worry, no one was hurt too badly. I understand how you must've felt. I probably would have done the same."
"Another thing, will you promise to still be her friend? You're the only one she has."
"Of course!"
I detransformed and didn't dare look to see Danny's expression. I was too scared.
"(Y/n)?"
"I... I lied earlier. Danny, I don't like you like that. I was just too scared to tell you the truth, but I didn't want to lead you on either. I'm sorry if I hurt you."
Danny was silent and I still couldn't face him.
"Thank you for trusting me. It's ok that you don't feel the same way. I just want us to at least be friends."
I look up, finally. Danny had a smile but he still seemed sad. I could feel the tears stinging my eyes.
"Wait, there's something I don't get." He says. "Why does it seem like your ghost half is a whole different person?"
"That's something not even I know. It's been like that my whole life, as far as I can remember."
"That's strange. Well, I should be heading back home. If you want me to keep this a secret from Sam and Tucker, I'll keep my mouth shut."
"No, I don't want to come between you guys any more than I already have. You can tell them."
"Are you sure?"
"They've kept your secret, right?"

We both transformed and went our separate ways. The heavy feeling in my chest seemed to lift as I flew home. It was a short relief because as soon as I entered the house, I found my dad waiting for me.
"You're in for an earful! Hahaha!!"
"Shut up."
