"Hey, Kenny!" Gabbrielle waves excitedly as she sees me enter the cafe. I smiled and waved at her because I was happy to see her. "What can I get you?" She asks and leans forward and getting into my face. "It is on me," she whispers.

I smiled and glanced down for a while before meeting her eyes again "you don't have to cover it." I told her, but she shook her head.

"Nonsense Kenny Wenny! It makes me happy when you accept so, please accept," she gives me the puppy dog eyes that I can't refuse. So, I nod yes with a smile which resulted in her cheering so much the customers start staring at us. "Yay! So, what will it be?" She asks and I shrug not sure what I want.

"Surprise me. I'm just going to surf the net to see if there are any close-by job openings." I told her and she thumps up with a smile " I'm paying for that though." I beat her to it, and she pouts disappointed but shrugged off and smiles.

"Fine"

I head over to the computer in the cafe and waited until she opens it for me to use and soon it was open. Quickly when I saw my time displayed on the screen, I immediately get to searching but after ten minutes of searching I came up with jobs that either want well-qualified persons, average qualified people, and others that are maxed out with workers I could have tried out. It was disappointing and it dampened my mood for the day, but I remember my mother's words.

Never give up, never give in. For the good and the innocent prosper and the bad and guilty perish.

I decided to finish my meal because I can't afford to waste anything right now. I browse for the remaining five minutes until I was locked out then I got up and stretch a little to ease my muscles. "Didn't find anything?" Gab asks genuinely and I shake my head. "Oh shoot! I want you to work here. I can't fire any of these darn people because they are all nice and good at their job," she glared at nothing in particular but quickly cheered up with a smile. "Don't worry my friend. Your luck will come, maybe even tomorrow." I smile loving how her positive vibe is being transferred over to me.

"Thank you Gab" I hug her because the last time I didn't and told her why she punch me hard.

"I want to hug you, but you don't hug me." She whispers looking down.

"I do want to hug you friend but I'm dirty. You know my situation a bit," her face immediately change to glare, and she punch me.

"You listen here, mister. You could smell like a dump on top of dumps and dumps. I still want a hug, you're such a real friend," she hugged me without letting me process anything.

"See you tomorrow, Kenny?" She asks hopefully I nod, and she cheers about running away.

I just smile as I watch her and hurry on my way before night falls completely. I had an hour's walk to where I'm currently sleeping and just thinking of it had me tired already, but I had to get there.

Fortunately for me the road there wasn't bad at all, of course, they were thugs here and there and I had to pass a few prostitutes who were kind, by kind I mean they ask me multiple times to join them and the boys to make a few changes since men ask for special request if you get what I mean however apart from that I had no issues at all.

Regardless of their teasing and hopefulness of my joining they were cool, and some are good with advice, but everything was on sale I was advised. I so happen to get one once out of pity, but I liked it, and it did help in a hard time of mine. One that also had me to my knees giving up.

"Hey K," Patricio called to me and I smile waving at him in his tight booty shorts and net top, no sleeves with boots that don't look too bad. Beside him were Tracey, Britney, and Fiona wearing skimpy outfits to leer men in for a few minutes or hours of fun and desire fulfillment before tossing them back to their boring wives or husbands. I wave to all of them, and they return it except for Crystal who I didn't take offense with because that's just her personality.

Closed off.

I pass the only drug house which looks like a family home. Their tactic of hiding in plain sight but the only reason I knew was, well because I saw a few transactions going on one night so I hid in the brush until morning so no one saw me and think I witness anything to shut them down. My life was hard and miserable but that doesn't mean it's not worth fighting for.

Finally reaching my abandoned building of solitude I hurry inside checking my surrounding. I check on my clothes to see if they are dry from this morning's washing in a close-by lake in the park and they were, so I took them with me as I head for my late-night bath. I was already shaking thinking of how cold the water was, but I expected my body to get used to it, seeing as I bathe here every night. I strip out of my clothes quickly while looking around to see if anyone decide to take a late walk, but I saw no one so I test the water with my toes as always then got in sinking to my neck then sigh as I tremble.

A minute or two passed and I decided to stay longer because I wasn't sleepy as yet but then I hear voices and footsteps, so I quickly look around me however I didn't see anyone. The voices got closer and closer "he's way too serious and cruel. He cares for no one, and he treated us like garbage. I mean yes he ignores us like ninety-nine percent of the time and then that one percent is when you finally get his attention and when you get his attention it's either you are being shouted at, humiliated, or fired." The guy complains.

"Stop complaining." The other guy said sounding uninterested in the conversation. "Do your job. Don't be one of them that receive his attention and go on with life," was the guy's motivation to his friend. By now I was running out of air, my chest starts to ache, and bubbles were escaping to the surface of the water.

"What was that?" The guy asks curiously.

"Your common sense running away." The guy commented.

"Very funny Phillipe" the guy let out a humorless laugh and their footsteps started again. Kenny hurriedly surfaces and take large breaths, feeling the air entering his lungs feel good and refreshing, he checks his surrounding and then rests his end on the bank of the lake.

"That was close," he told himself. "Too close." He rises from the water. Dry off using a medium towel he brought some time ago and put on his clean clothes become heading back home where you got ready to sleep.

"Tomorrow will be better," he whispers to himself staring up at the ceiling fill with holes so he can see the stars. To him, it felt like he was talking to his mother too and it made him smile sadly as the feeling of missing someone surfaced.

"Tomorrow must be better."
