They were talking in the commons, laughing. Nika had already decided they liked Kurt. When asked about his skirt, he laughed and said, "Well, they're comfortable. Besides, I look fantastic."

"Don't worry, I'm here; traffic was horrible," Jeff announced dramatically as he walked in, sitting beside Nika and kissing them on the cheek.

They laughed while Nika felt fear bubble up inside them, sucking down the rest of their iced coffee.

"I was beginning to think you weren't coming," Blaine teased. "Jeff, this is Kurt, my boyfriend. Kurt, this is Jeff, Dalton's resident ray of sunshine."

Kurt was sitting on the arm of the couch beside Blaine, his skirt shown in his fully glory. He smiled, clearly unaware of what was to come. "It's nice to finally meet you, I've heard a lot about you."

Jeff didn't return the smile; Nika doubted he even saw it, because his eyes were trained on the skirt. "Boyfriend?" he asked.

Kurt's smile faded to a thin line. "Yes, boyfriend. I suppose you have a problem with a boy in a skirt?"

"Several," Jeff responded bluntly.

"Wow. Ray of sunshine, indeed." Sarcasm dripped from Kurt's voice.

Nika couldn't help but elbow their boyfriend. "Behave," they chided.

"Behave, how? Show respect to a crossdresser?"

"I–" they stopped, biting their lip and looking away.

"Jeff, that's enough," Wes said firmly, in his voice that nobody could help but obey.

Jeff just got up, leaving towards the dorms.

Wes sighed deeply, like he was dealing with a toddler. "Kurt, I'm sorry about him. Trust me, he's the only one of us who thinks like that."

"Oh, don't apologize," Kurt said, perfectly cheerful. "It's not your fault he's a bitch."

Nika snorted, unable to help it. They all looked at them, and they stifled laughter. "I'm sorry, it's just– he's not wrong."

"Nick, he's your boyfriend," Blaine said, sounded surprised.

"Yeah, I don't think he will be for long. And, um, Nika. I changed it back."

"Back?"

"I, ah, changed it to Nick when I met Jeff. He thought it sounded like a girl's name, he didn't like it. It's not a girl's name; it's a nonbinary name, because it's my name."

Kurt was the first to get it; Nika could see it in his eyes. But Thad was the first to speak up.

"That has to be the fucking smoothest coming-out I've ever witnessed."

They all laughed at that, and Nika felt happier than they had in years.
