"You asked to see me?"
Wes took a deep breath. "Sir, I understand that the rooming assignments are difficult and time-consuming for you, but I would like to request a different roommate."
The Dean looked exhausted. "I thought you and Sterling were friends?"
"We are at the current moment, but if we continue to live together we won't be."
"Have you tried resolving it on your own?"
Wes shook his head. "He doesn't know there's a problem, sir. I simply don't feel comfortable around him and if he finds something out about me, he'll hate me and most likely tell everyone."
"Why would he find it out now if he hasn't before?"
"We've never slept in the same room or changed in front of each other before."
He sighed. "I've never changed rooming assignments as much as I have in these past few weeks. What is going on with you all?"
Wes swallowed nervously. Did he have to out himself to get a different roommate? "I'm sure you know Blaine's boyfriend has transferred here, sir. He has a preference towards clothes traditionally worn by girls, which Jeff has shown to have a big problem with. He outed himself as transphobic. Over the summer Nika Duval– previously Nicholas Duval– came out as nonbinary, which has created an awkward rift between them and Jeff.
"And Jeff is happy to be rooming with me, because he doesn't know I'm transgender." There it is. "Not many people know and I prefer to keep it that way, and I know if he finds out he'll tell everyone. It's impossible to be his roommate and keep it from him, especially since I haven't had surgery."
The Dean blinked. "Come again?"
"I'm transgender," he repeated, forcing the word out again. "I transitioned long before I came to Dalton, so my dead-name isn't anywhere in your system. I like people not knowing, and if Jeff finds out, there's no way he won't tell everyone."
He shook his head, looking over at his computer. "Okay– so Sterling can't be roomed with Hummel, Duval, Anderson, or you. How about Clarington? You and Harris are close, does he know?"
Wes nodded. "He does, sir."
"And Clarington spends most of his time with his boyfriend anyway... Alright. I'm switching you and Clarington."
"Thank you, sir."
