Once me and Zero Two reached the cafeteria, we sat down at our respective tables. There wasn't any rule that prevented boys and girls from eating with one another, but it was just something we all did, even though we got along perfectly fine. Zero Two sat at a table alone as the rest of the girls sat at their table.

"Itadakimasu." said everybody in unison. We all began to eat.

"So, what do you guys think of the new girl?" asked Zorome.

"She seems like an okay perso-" Goro said before my mind began to wander. I started to think about Zero Two, she seemed so familiar to me, it's like I've seen her before but I can't remember where. As if the answers were just out of reach from my grasp.

"What do you think of her, Hiro?" asked Goro, snapping me back into reality.

"Hm? Sorry, I think I spaced out for a bit." I replied. "What did you ask?"

"Daydreaming, huh?" said Mitsuru.

"What do you think about the new girl, Zero Two?" asked Goro.

"She's mysterious. When she introduced herself, she just told us her name. We know nothing about her past. *sigh* I want to get to know her more." I answered. Zorome elbowed me and started to wink.

"I think you guys might start da-"

"Just focus on you and Miku for now." I cut him off. He went quiet and returned to eating his food."Besides, we just met. But that doesn't mean I'm completely opposed to the idea." I thought to myself as I finished my food. As we went to our next class, we took our seats in our designated spots. Zero Two was one seat in front and to the right of me this time, but as she walked over to her seat, she stopped and smiled at me. She gave me a wink before she sat down and Zorome, who sat next to me, whispered to me.

"I'm telling you." He says as he shrugs. I brush him off as class continues as normal.

Throughout class, I found myself staring at Zero Two. There was something oddly captivating about her; this aura that she radiated. I feel like I know her, yet I also feel like I know nothing about her. I need to focus on my work, because if I look at Zero Two, I won't be able to focus. She went to reach for something in her bag, which was hanging from her chair. I was still looking at her, and me and her made eye contact. I could feel my face turning red as she just smiled at me and took a notebook out of her bag. I looked away, embarrassed that she caught me staring. At lunch, we sat in our respective seats. Zero Two, however, walked up to me and nudged me a little, so there was enough space for her to sit on my chair. Everyone at my table looked at me and Zero Two sitting next to each other in disbelief.
"Why don't we eat together?" she asked me as she reached for a loaf of bread.

"I guess we could.." I muttered.

Rolling their eyes, everyone else went back to eating their food. Zorome perked up as if he remembered something.

"Oh, did you guys hear about the announcement?" He asked us.

"Announcement?" We all said in unison. Everyone except Zero Two, that is. She was still busy eating.

"It's something to do with everyone who lives in the Franxx Apartments, you know, the complex that's owned by the school? Apparently, we'll know what it is after school." Zorome continued.

"I wonder what it would be." Futoshi said as he went back to eating his food.

"Ah, that reminds me." I said. "I haven't seen you anywhere in the apartment, Zero Two. Not in the living room and not anywhere else."

"Well, today's going to be my first day there. I heard you all have roommates so I'm excited to see who'll be mine." She said with a smile on her face. "It's my first time living in a place without my parents," She continued. "Although I miss them, this sounds like it'll be fun."

We all continued to finish our food, and moved on to our next lesson. My eyes started to feel heavy and I was having trouble keeping my eyes open. That canned coffee I bought didn't help me at all, and I was falling asleep. Luckily, the day was already over and I met up with everybody after class.

"I think I'm going to go to my room and rest, I'm way too tired to do anything." I told them.

"Are you okay Hiro?" Goro asked me. He was always looking out for me.

"Yeah, don't worry about me. I'm just going to sleep for a bit." I replied.

"If you say so." He said as he shrugged. "I'll come to visit you if anything comes up."

"Thank you, but if it's not important, please don't wake me up." I joked.

We parted ways and I walked over to the apartment complex. I took the elevator up to my floor and opened my door. I stared out the window for a little bit, and I saw a bird with one wing perched on a tree. I walked over to my bed and laid down. My mind began to wander over all the things that had happened today, then I thought of Zero Two. When I think of her, I get this wave of nostalgia; as if she's someone that I should know but I just can't seem to remember where. Those horns of hers intrigued me, and there's something about her that's oddly enchanting. My eyes felt heavy as I began to drift off into sleep.

When I woke up, I was met with a pair of sea-green eyes.

"You're cute when you're asleep." said the figure in front of me. I moved back, sat up and stared in disbelief at who was in front of me. My face began to turn red, again.

"Zero Two?! What are you doing here? Why are you in my room? How did you get inside? Why are you-" I said before she put her index finger to my lip and stopped me.

"You forgot that there was an announcement today, didn't you?" She asked. She was right too, I completely forgot about the announcement today and I had no idea what it was about.

"There was a change of roommates, and now we're allowed to have male and female pairs. From now on, we're roommates." She explained with a smile on her face. "By the way, you're late for dinner. Let's go." She added, standing up. I got up and put on my hoodie and sneakers, still trying to comprehend what she just said. I could've been put with anybody, male or female, at least I think so... I'm not complaining about her being my roommate by any means, I'm just surprised, is all. I stepped out the doorway as me and Zero Two walked down the hallway towards the elevator. She went ahead of me and turned around to see me behind her. She then walked up to me and grabbed my hand.

"Oh come on, you're so slow!" She said and she took my hand and ran down the hallway with me. I struggled to keep up with her as she laughed. We reached the elevator and made our way down to the cafeteria.
