Police been grilling me with soo many questions that I practically zoned out. The only true friend I had was now dead and it's still eating me up inside.

"Ma'am?" The detective said, snapping me back to reality.

"Yeah?"

"I asked if you knew anyone that may have had some kind of grudge against your friend."

"Oh, I'm sorry..." I sheepishly said as I watched them wheel her body out the house on the stretcher.

"Well...do you?"

The detective gave me this long look as if he was trying to read my facial expression and body language.

Steeling myself, I looked him in the eyes and said, "Nah...not that I know of."

"Are you sure? She never talked about anybody she may have had a confrontation with or such?" He asked while still giving me this curious look.

"Look, Veondra and I may have been close but she never really told me everything that went on in her life. So I'm sorry I'm not much help." I said while shrugging.

The detective chewed on his cheek and nodded," Alright then....but if you find out anything or happen to remember something, call me. I wanna catch the bastard who did this."

The detective handed me his card before patting my shoulder and walking away. I looked at the card in my hand before ripping it in half and shoving it in my pockets.

"Sorry Detective.." I mumbled while going to my car.

I started the car up and drove back to the apartment. I couldn't help but think about my mom the whole drive there..

Flashback...

"Happy birthday, babygirl!" My mom said in excitement as she woke me up.

I rubbed my eyes and smiled before wrapping my little arms around her neck.

"Ughhh my baby is growing up soo fast. Before you know it, you're gonna be all grown up."

Giggling, I kissed my mother on the cheek and said, "But I'll still be your baby."

My mom smiled and nodded her head, yes, as she sat me on her lap.

"Well since my little girl turned eight today," my mom kissed the tip of my nose and giggled as she pointed to a bag that was sitting next to the door. "I got you a little something. Go ahead and go see what your first present is."

Filled with curiosity and excitement, I hopped off my mother's lap and ran towards the bag. When I opened it up, I seen a stuffed, white teddy bear inside.

I pulled the teddy bear out the bag and instantly held it close to my chest.

"Well....do you like it?"

I nodded and ran back over to her with the teddy bear in my hand.

"What should we name him, momma?" I asked while sitting back in my mom's lap.

"Hmmmmm..." my mother began to rub her chin while giggling. "How about Mr. Ticklesssss!!"

My mom began to tickle my neck, making me laugh hysterically.

"Vanessa!!"

When my mother heard my father's voice, her facial expression changed.

"Momma?"

"Yes, sweetheart?"

"What's wrong?" I asked while resting my head on her chest.

I heard my mother sigh deeply, "Nothing's wrong, ladybug..."
