Chapter 3

We were already to leave. Shane went to get Lori's trail blazer from her house.  I was sitting in the front seat of my Hummer. Shane wanted to head towards the highway. I thought it was a bad idea, but I didn't say anything. We didn't go get Rick, because Shane came back saying he was dead. I let a few tears roll down my face. We had lost a close friend and Lori had lost her husband. The I truly felt for was Carl. My thoughts were disturbed when Shane got back with Lori's car. When he got out, he announced that we were leaving. He jumped into his jeep. I started my Hummer, smiling slightly to the loud sound it made. I put it in reverse and backed out of the garage. I followed behind Shane, Lori was behind me.

Ten to fifteen minutes later we got to the highway which was blocked with cars trying to leave.  Eventually it got dark. All the cars were stopped and turned off. I had my arms wrapped around Shane. I looked up into his eyes. He looked into mine. I had thought maybe all of this could just be a dream. But it's not, sadly. I sighed I looked away to see Lori walking towards us with this short gray haired lady, who I found out later to be Carol. With her was her husband Ed and her daughter Sophia, who is Carl's new friend. I didn't pay much attention to them until Carol said that this guy named Dale has a RV, plus he was planning on taking off into the mountains. My ears perked up to that idea.

"Is anyone allowed to go with him?" I asked curiously. I looked behind me when a hand tugged on my arm. It was Shane. He leaned down to whisper to me "I don't think it's a good idea Nova."  

I don't know what happened but I just got really angry. "We'll I do." I started. "I think it will be good for me, the baby, and you Shane. Lori and Carl to. If you don't want to go then stay here for all I care." I finished walking towards Carol and Lori. I told Carol that I was gonna go with them, whether Shane was going or not. Carol said that was fine, she took me to meet Dale by his RV. By this RV there was an older man, two blondes who looked like sisters, an Asian guy, one black guy and girl. I later found out that the old man was Dale, the blondes were Andrea and Amy. The Asians name was Glenn, and the two black people were T-Dog and Jacqui. I asked Dale when we would leave. He said in a half hour. I smiled at him, and said thank you. I walked away to my hummer, Shane close at my heels. When I got to my car I searched for my bag with my hairbrush in it. When I found it, I grabbed my brush and a hair tie. I brushed my hair thoroughly, I then put it up in a messy bun. The whole time I was doing that I felt Shane's eyes on me.
