One child, the result of a secret relationship between a spirit and a human. And claimed by the embodiment of evil.
The other, the result of a barren couple's years of prayer. Given and claimed by God.

Vivien Harmon and Elizabeth Minchen go into labor at the same time, six months into their pregnancies, on opposite sides of the continental US.
Vivien, assisted by the spirits of the Murder House and her husband, gives birth to her son.
Elizabeth gives birth in a church, assisted by midwives while Sisters of the Church prayed for the safe delivery of her child.
But the Minchens' happy occasion is not shared by the Harmons. While Elizabeth cries tears of joy, baby held tight to her chest, Ben Harmon sobs for his wife.
