Chapter 2

Indhu's POV

I stare at him. The guy that I had bumped into not even an hour ago. That same guy.

"Hi andi. Naa peru Surya." he says to me.

"Hi. My name is Surya." he says to me.

"Indhu." I reply. He smiles.

"Ammaitho emaina maatladala babu?" My dad asks him.

"Do you need to talk to the girl about anything?" my dad asks him.

"Uh, avunandi." he replies, getting up.

"Uh, yes sir." he replies, getting up.

"Indhu, vellamma." my dad says to me.

"Indhu, go dear." my dad says to me.

I shake my head ok, and stand up as well.

"Randi." I say to him.

"Come." I say to him.

"Uh, yea." he replies. I walk down the hall and into the back, the guy following behind me.

I stop in the garden, and turn around.

"Edo Matladali annaru?" I ask.

"You said you wanted to talk?" I ask.

"Uh, ante, meeku oka nijam cheppali." he says.

"Uh, well. I have to tell you a truth." he says.

"Enta nijam?" I ask.

"What's that truth?" I ask.

"Mimmalni nenu modatisari choosinappude preminchanu."

"I fell in love with you the first time I say you."

"Enti?"

"What?"

"Avunu."

"Yea."

"Eppudu, ekkada, ela?" I ask at once.

"When, where, how?" I ask at once.

"Ante, mimmalni oka few months back choosanu. Appude padipoya."

"Well, I saw you a few months back. I fell in love with you then."

"Ekkada choosavu?"

"Where did you see me?"

"Meeru pani chese hospital."

"The hospital you work at."

"Meeru asalu akkada enduku unnaru?"

"Why were you even there?"

"Nenu konni rowdy vedavalni kottaka vaallani hospitallo-" he starts, but I interrupt him.

"I had hit some rowdy fellows and and joined them in the hospital-" he starts, but I interrupt him.

"Oh, avunu kada. Meere kotti meere theeskochi treatment ippicharu."

"Oh, right. You hit them and you brought them to the hospital for treatment."

"Yea..."

"Indhu." I hear Taman call. I turn towards him. He smiles, and I smile back, unfortunately for me.

"So...ee pelli meeku okna?" He asks.

"So...are you fine with this marriage?" he asks.

"Na friends and familyki meeru nacharu. Chesukomante...chesukunta." I reply.

"My friends and family like you. If they tell me to marry you...I will." I reply.

"kaani, meeku nachana?" he asks.

"But, do you like me?" he asks.

"Ante..." I trail off.

"I mean..." I trail off.

"Oh. Lopalaki veldama?" he asks.

"Oh. Lets go in side?" he asks.

I nod an ok, and we walk inside.

"Super bavagaru. Ammai abbai ishta ishtalu kalisai." I hear my dad say. My hear nearly stops at the words.

"Super brother-in-law. The girl and boy's likes and dislikes matched." I hear my dad say. My heart nearly stops at the words.

Surya and I walk into the living room, and I see a man and woman sitting with my parents.

"Mamayya..." Surya trails off.

"Uncle..." Surya trails off.

"Alludugaru randi." my dad says to him.

"Son-in-law, come on." my dad says to him.

I stand there, shook, unable to say no to the horror happening in front of my eyes. My parents and Surya's uncle and aunt get up to exchange the Bettal leaves with some religious things on them.

Then, they hand Surya a ring, and me one as well, telling us to put the ring on the other's fingers. I put the ring on Surya, my movements animated. He does the same to me, though he seems happy. Guess he is.

This marriage is fixed...
