THE NEXT DAY WAS FEBRUARY 6TH.

A normal working day for the company. It was almost normal, until Ada was arrested and questioned for being at a Communist meeting and talking to Jessie Eden over a drink. The constables stripped search her since she was carrying a gun and she refused to talk to the police.

After she left freely, she went to Thomas' office and talked about what happened. Thomas told her that he talked to Jessie Eden came to talk earlier that morning. Her and Thomas came up with a compromise, he'd give make and female wire cutters equal pay for a couple names. They shook on it and the meeting was over.

Tabitha was back at the Shelby home playing cards with her brother Theo, Lizzie, and Finn. Both Lizzie and Tabitha were pregnant, having Polly read their tea leaves the day before. Both women were excited, and Theo was excited to be a father. Thomas lessened both Tabitha's and Lizzie's workload and made them go home earlier, leaving him at the office by himself.

After playing cards a couple times, Theo and Lizzie want home a couple houses down on Watery Lane. Tabitha was still playing cards with Finn, and it has been awhile since they played cards together. It had been such a long time ago when Tabitha first married Thomas when her and Finn played go fish at the dinner table. One last game and Finn said goodnight and went to his room, and Tabitha began putting the cards back in the pack.

Thomas had come home, immediately walking into the kitchen to see Tabitha. Tabitha put down the pack of cards and faintly smiled.

"Finish everything at the office?" Tabitha asked.

"Yes. Ada came by for a little bit," Thomas replied. "Grab your coat, let's go."

"Where are we going?"

Tabitha got up from the table and grabbed her coat from her chair. She began putting her arms through the sleeves.

"It's a surprise, come on," Thomas said, taking her hand and leading her out of the Shelby home.

Together they walked with his arm around her shoulders, pulling him closer to her. Thomas led her towards Charlie's shipyard, making Tabitha wonder what surprise he had for her there.

"Tommy, why are we in uncle Charlie's shipyard?" Tabitha asked curiously.

"You'll see, just a couple more steps now," Thomas replied, faintly smiled.

Thomas led her into the stables where the horse we'd asleep, and Tabitha's eyes widened and her jaw dropped. Charlie and Curly were there beside a small table covered with a nice, white and clean cloth. There were plates, bottles of rum and gin and water as well as plates, and an oil lamp. On the hay was a gramophone, playing soft music. Tabitha didn't speak, not knowing what to say, and turned to Thomas.

"W-what is this?" Tabitha asked, her mouth still open.

"I thought we'd get away for the night, have dinner here in the stables," Thomas said, still giving a faint smile.

"We found the gramophone abandoned inside a gentleman's car," Curly said with a smile.

"Thank you, Curly."

Both Curly and uncle Charlie took the hint and left, leaving Thomas and Tabitha alone in the stables. Tabitha didn't help but feel touched, because Thomas did that for her.
