"Shouldn't you be sleeping?" I ask, breaking the silent drive to Santa Cruz, turning to look at him.
"I can't," he says quietly, eyes focused on the road.
"Is it cause you're going to miss me too much?" I tease, poking his cheek causing him to smile.
"Oh pfftt, no." he pauses. "But yeah I will, I always do."
"I'll still be here you know, when you come back again." I say.
"I know, sometimes I wish I could stay here longer or bring you with me." he says, pulling into the parking lot of the beach.
"One day," I reassure him. He's always been dropping the hint of wanting me to go join on tour but my schedule is so hectic with going to university and work.
Mikey steps out of the car, goes to my side and opens the door. Out of all people you wouldn't think Mikey would be the kind to open doors for you but he's such a gentleman and it surprised me the first time we went out together in his car.
"Wait here, I need to get the towels and stuff in the back." he says, opening my door and the one behind me.
I'm about to step out to help him, realizing that I don't have any flip flops so I stay put. Once he got everything he shuts the door and crouches in front of me as I scramble onto his back. We somehow close the door and lock the car and make our way to our special spot on the beach.
"If you fucking drop me again Michael," I threaten. Right as I say that he lets my legs go and I quickly tighten my grip around his neck, startling him and causing him to lose his balance. We hit the sand, him dropping all what's in his hands. We end up in the most uncomfortable position but we still stay in it as we are laughing so much to even realize it.
"Every time, why?" I say between laughs. We untangle ourselves from each other and Mikey crawls to get the things he dropped, setting out the towel and I realize a couple bottles of coolers when the moonlight hits the bottles.
"It's fun," he shrugs and opens one of the coolers and hands it to me. I take it and take a good gulp, feeling the cooling sensation hit my throat. I sigh and take in the sound of the waves hitting the shore. I push my toes in the sand and wiggle them and close my eyes.
"How's Alex?" Mikey asks, breaking me from my trance of silence. I look at him, as he takes a swig of a cooler after asking the question.
"Good I guess, we don't really see each other anymore" I say, trying to keep the subject at a minimum. Alex is this guy that I met at university and we kinda had a thing...well we hung out on a couple occasions but none of them I'd consider dates. He's a nice guy but I just see him as a friend.
"Really? Why?" Mikey sounds so surprised.
"Why do you sound so surprised?" I raise my eyebrow and take another drink. He shrugs, and I take it as the signal to continue. "I may have told him that he's a really good friend and emphasized on friend."
"That's it? You didn't tell him about us?" he asks cautiously.
"Nope, didn't see the need to." I pause to take another drink. "How's Bianca?"
"We broke up." I'm not surprised at all.
"Before or after..?" I ask hesitantly.
"After." he says simply.
"To be honest, I'm quite surprised you lasted this long. She hates my guts." I say, laughing at the memories I had of first meeting her. I didn't realize that she was dating Mikey before I jumped into his arms and kissed him on the cheek. Oops.
