Chapter 2

Kara kept her head low and took a step forward.

Luke looked up from the door and saw her blue tips. He smirked and thought ‘Who could miss them?’ He estimated the distance between her and himself and decided to go for it. He marched right up to her and “accidentally” stepped on her toe.

 “Sorry, didn’t see you there.”

“You know, sometimes it’s okay to lie, but this is not one of those times,” Kara said, and then stepped in front of him, blocking the exit.

“Excuse me, but I have somewhere to go.” He side-stepped her and almost got around her.  But Kara, having grown up around basketball, drop-stepped and blocked him yet again.

“Not until you apologize, you don’t,” she countered.

“Well, I’m not apologizing,” Luke said.

“Well then, I’m not moving.” And with that, Kara grabbed her basket and waved it in front of the security sensors. They went off like crazy - complete with blinking lights and horrific sounds. Kara dropped the basket and bolted out the door. “Ta-ta Luke! Until we meet again.” She sprinted to her car and opened her door. She got in and turned on the ignition, and then backed out of her parking spot.

“Hello, there,” comes a voice from the back of her car.

Kara whipped her head around and came face-to-face with a dark haired boy with blonde streaks.

 “You look like-”

“Mali? Yeah, I know I’m her brother, Calum.”

 Kara’s phone buzzed.

Brother coming your way. Watch your back, he’s sneaky.

 To: The Better Hood

Yeah, he was in my car. He looks exactly like you.

 From: The Better Hood

 Don’t remind me.

“The better Hood? I didn’t know you had my number,” he piped up from the backseat.

“I don’t. It’s your sister’s. And if Mali wasn’t the better Hood, your mom would be next in line.”

“Ouch.” He put a hand over his heart. “That hurt.”

Kara rolled her eyes, and then began to drive. Because of Calum’s sudden appearance, she had slammed on the brakes and momentarily sat in the parking lot.

“So, am I the first person you have graced with your presence?”

“Actually, I met your little friend, Luke is it?”

“Umm yeah. Did he do anything?” Calum inquired.

“Other than get caught with a basket of makeup about to be walked out of the store, no.”

“What? What did you do? Is he okay? Oh my gosh, I told Liz I would take care of him!” he shouted.

“Sorry, but I’ve got places to go and I’d appreciate it if you could GET OUT OF MY CAR!” Kara yelled.

Calum huffed and puffed and got out of her car. He walked out onto the street and sat on a bench. He took out his phone and called Luke.

“Where are you?!” he screamed at the tiny screen.

“Hello, you have reached my voicemail. If I do not call back later, I am in Antarctica with penguins. So you can leave me alone.”

Cal threw his phone on the ground then walked away.

10 minutes later, he went back and picked it up.
