My foot kept time as the music plays into my ears as I turn a page in my book, “Don’t waste your time on me you’re already the voice inside my head,” I sing along and tap the glass of the window I was sitting in in the back stairwell. As the song ends, I hear the door open to the stairs.
“Ugh,” a snooty voice came from above me as I pull the headphones from my ears, “how did she do it?”
“I don’t know, Mary…” Helena’s voice came out quietly.
“Well you better figure it out,” she snaps at the poor girl shrinking against the railing, “we made him a promise… and I won’t be the one paying if we fail. Understand?”
“Yes, Mary,” Helena chokes out as Mary lets out a cold laugh.
“I’m sure… Now, do you have my potion?” she asks.
“Well… I got the ingredients, but I wasn’t able to put it all together between classes,” her voice quivers as a smack echoes through the little space.
“Helena, Helena, Dear Helena,” Mary Ellen says in a sweet voice, “let’s remember who gave you that beautiful face after taking it from that bitch…”
What was she talking about? How could she steal someones face? Better yet, whose face did she take?
“Of course, Mary,” she says quietly followed by a few huffs and sniffles.
“Now, I have a date,” Mary walks up the stairs and back towards the doors, “help me get ready.”
“Okay!” I could hear the glee in her voice as they skip back into the main hallway and most likely to the bedroom down the hall.
She has a date… Interesting, I might have to go and figure out who the victim is. With a smirk on my face, I head back up to my dorm where I knew the two of them were probably messing with Mary’s hair and fixing her nails; all that girly stuff that never seemed all that important to me.
Of course, when I got to the room, I was right. Sort of. There was more than just Helena and Mary in the room. Mary was sitting at the vanity with five girls other than Helena surrounding her. The younger two, twins, were sitting at her sides and filing at her fingernails and another at her feet working on her toes. The next girl was standing behind her brushing through the long mass of hair on her head while Helena works on her makeup. I seriously thought about making noise over the ridiculous sound of The Wanted that they had blasting over the speakers before I saw a girl bring Mary a dress. It was a silver scala one shoulder sequins cocktail dress. Honestly, it was the most beautiful thing that I have ever saw, and I couldn’t stop staring as she put it on.
“So where are you going?” Shay, the girl doing Mary’s hair asks as she puts the last pin into the up due.
“Ms. Goode is taking her best student, me, to represent the girls of this Academy to have dinner with Professor Henry at Commander’s Palace to talk about the Halloween Ball,” Mary Ellen says as she slips her new pedi into her glittering stilettos.
