Going back to my truck and driving home, I went over what had just happened in my mind. I had just defeated six armed men by myself, their leader ran for his life, and I was bleeding from my shoulder again. As I arrived home, Haley came out to meet me with a deadly look on her face and I decided it would be best to keep my mouth shut.

"Where have you been Daniel?" she asked with her hands on her hips.

"I'll explain when we get upstairs, babe."

As she stitched me up, I told her the tale and watched her get angrier and angrier. When I finished, she began ticking things off on her fingers. "So this dude puts a price on your head for destroying his warehouse? Then lures you on a fake mission with the intent being to capture you, and only brings six guys? This doesn't ring right with me, Daniel."

"Six men would be enough to take down most people, baby girl," I assured her. "I was barely able to hold my own during the fight, more or less anyone else. It was what he said that puzzled me. Who does he think sent me?"

She accepted that and turned her attention back to my stitches, and her hair fell down over her shoulder. She looked so pretty in that moment; it warmed my heart and made me think as I studied her face.

I have given this woman no proof that I even like her, and yet she still sits here and stitches me up. She took care of me after I passed out, and spends a good bit of her time with me. She must see something in me that I don't even see. She deserves better from me, but I'm wrapped up in Melissa Dejesus. To hell with her!

I watched as she bit her bottom lip in concentration, lowered her head to my shoulder, and bit the end of the thread off.

Looking at me, she smiled. "What? You're looking at me though I grew another head or something!" she said with a small laugh.

"Nothing much, I just realized something."

"Well? What is it?" she asked, swinging a pillow at me after a moment's silence.

I pulled her into my arms, wincing a bit at the pain. As I looked into her large brown eyes, I felt drawn into them. "I realized that I love you Haley. Very, very much."

I felt her body stiffen as she raised her head to look me dead in the eye. "What?"

"You heard me," I said with a smile.

Her gaze softened a bit before she responded, "You don't mean that, Daniel."

"Actually, I do. I mean it with all my heart."

"I love you too, Daniel, but I take those words very seriously. Make sure you can back them up."

With a laugh, I threw her onto the bed and smothered her with a pillow while she squealed. Moving the pillow from her face she gazed into my eyes and I leaned in to her, capturing her in a passionate kiss.

Vega's body shook with rage. “How did this happen! What are you people, girl scouts? All of you got taken down by one kid with a butter knife?” He gripped the ledge of the dining table and heaved, the table flipped through the air, scattering dishes and food all over the floor

The three men in the room with him all shifted from foot to foot, none willing to be the first to speak. Vega stopped pacing and looked upon the closest one to him, then moved forward until their noses were a mere inch from each other. “Well?” He growled menacingly.

The man looked to the other men in the room before answering. “Boss you saw him, the kid can fight. It's not our fault! If you would have let us shoot him this wouldn't be a problem!”
