Chapter 9

A/N: Hi guys..........

Sorry for the extended wait......

Thank you to everyone who has waited patiently for this to be updated for....the past two years?

🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲

I just want you all to know that even though I didn't reply to the comments on the last chapter, I saw them. So here we are. After two years, I'm finally updating.

I made an announcement on my profile about the future of this story, so you can go take a look if you want more details. In short, I'm going to start updating this story again (YAYYYY) but it will be sporadic with no set updates compared to Last Shadow because I simply can't juggle a million things at once.

I'll just stop it here because I know you guys are pissed at me for making you wait this long and just want to get to the story, so yeah, have fun reading.

Maybe restart too in case you've forgotten everything 😅

Just an FYI, from this chapter on, chapters will usually be between 1800-3000 words long compared to 1000-1600 from before (with the exception of chapter 1). I don't know why, but all of a sudden, I just ended up writing more (I'm two chapters ahead and they're all around 2500 words 😭). So, yeah. If you dislike long chapters, please let me know and I can split them in half so it's not so lengthy. If no one says anything, I'm going to assume that all of you are fine with it and just continue. So please let me know by commenting here! Thanks.

Thank you guys SO MUCH for waiting and for staying with Raven and Nico even after all this time. Seriously, I love you all so much. 😭😭😭

Raven

There was such emptiness in her. Such hollow, aching emptiness, the shadows smothering the last flicker of light. Elian's death had left a gaping hole through the very center of her, a hole that could never be filled no matter how far she flew, the darkness always a breath away. She'd learned to embrace the blackness, the pain, the whispers of shadow and death on the wind; after all, she was the daughter of night and shadow; but the aching hollowness had always lurked beyond the corner.

But now, despite the newly opened rawness of the wound, despite having been dragged back through the memories that she'd tried so hard to forget, to push into the dark spiral of her mind, she felt . . . at peace. Maybe it had something to do with the boy in her arms right now, the one person capable of even comprehending the pain she'd gone through. Who'd listened without judgment, without comment, and had understood.

For the first time, she'd been understood.

Even if, at the moment, the boy in question was being just a tad bit annoying.

"Careful," Nico shrieked, his grip becoming strangling tight as Raven banked, her wings slicing through the hazy smog of Tartarus. "If you drop me, I'll be on a one-way trip to hell!"

"Nico, you're already here," Raven replied, rolling her eyes, but tightened her grip on him as well as she swerved again, dipping below the layer of smoke that suffocated her world. Suddenly, the rocky terrain of Tartarus was spread out beneath them, the river of fire snaking towards the dark heart of Tartarus. From this point, Raven could see all the way to the impenetrable blackness in the horizon, the gateway to Chaos pulsing like a psychedelic circle, beckoning her to the deep abyss.
