When she woke up she decided to go with her favorite way of communicating her feelings: the silent treatment. Spencer's behavior was deplorable and uncalled for. And if he didn't apologize on his own, her words wouldn't change him either.
He seemed to be avoiding her as well. Just like two months ago. Who knew things would end up like this.
As soon as she walked through the double doors of Quantico High, she called Aaron. He picked up on the fourth ring.
"Yo."
"Where are you?"
"I'm in Gideon's room at the moment," he answered cautiously.
Gideon, Emily and Spencer all gave him curious looks. He moved the receiver from his mouth for a moment to say it was JJ. Spencer averted his eyes.
"Why, what's up?" At the speed of light, Aaron's entire demeanor shifted from playful to serious. "I'll be right there." He hung up the phone, gave the other two men a nod, and pecked his girlfriend's cheek before striding out the door. Gideon was the first to break the silence.
"Hope everything's okay. That JJ's a good egg." He checked his watch and decided to start putting away his practice case files.
"You had her in class?" Emily asked as she and Spencer assisted.
"Nope, not yet. Hotch brings her around sometimes though. And I've had Elle and Morgan before."
"Wait, you call Elle by her first name?" she asked skeptically.
"Oh yeah, she just ignores me if I call her Greenaway. She thinks she's funny." He looked over to Spencer who was uncharacteristically quiet. "You alright, Kid?"
"Hm? Yeah, I'm good," he slung his backpack over his shoulder. "See you around, Gideon."
"See ya!" he called from his storage room.
Spencer and Emily left the room and started heading to their first period class. What they didn't realize was that a New Orleans native happened to be going in the same direction.
Will was going about his business, just about to pass his two peers before he heard the name JJ. He slowed down and matched their pace a couple feet behind them.
"She calls Hotch for everything. I'm used to it by now," Reid said, annoyed.
"Have they... have they ever dated?" the emo girl asked softly, Will already forgot her name.
"Not yet," Reid answered. The girl glared at him and slapped him on the arm.
"That's not funny."
"I wasn't laughing."
Will stopped himself from following them across the bridge to the other building, remembering his class was downstairs.
So, it was obvious to people even outside their friend group that Hotch and JJ were a little too close for comfort. He wanted to believe what Elle said about them just being friends, but his gut told him otherwise. They were probably already dating and kept it to themselves to stay out of the public cesspool of gossip.
He couldn't help but dwell on the sinking feeling in his chest. Sure, JJ was always shy at first, but he knew deep down that she liked him on some level. That whole party on Homecoming night, after the initial brush off when she got there obviously, she stuck on him like sugar on a beignet. Until Hotch got there at least...
Will hopped off the last step and raked a hand through his hair. Leave it to him to be hung up on the most beautiful girl in school, like he had a chance. Everything was so different up North. It was all go-go-go. Oh, and the snow? Sure it was magical when he first saw it back in the tenth grade but now it was just hell. A cold, icy hell.
