the twins rode their carriage down the rocky mountain path into the busy town, bustling stores and restaurants lighting up the streets.

chan grabbed his brother's arm, shaking it lightly. "do you smell that?" chan asked, his eyes closing as he took in the heavenly scent.

soonyoung pulled their carriage to the side of the road, "what do you say we go find out? we've been travelling all day anyway." he took his brother's hand and helped him down, "wait! do we have any money with us?" he patted down his sides until chan raised up a small pouch.

"of course! i brought whatever we had saved, just in case." chan smiled, his glimmering white teeth on display.

the two boys followed the scent down the street, where a small bakery stood on the corner. inside the bakery was simple, but homey. a couple tables and chairs, a few dimply lit lights hanging from the ceiling a simple display case with what they had to offer.

they met eyes with the baker at the storefront. he was tall and lean, his sharp eyes piercing into the twins'.

soonyoung broke the silence, "your bakery smells amazing, sir."

he was met with a small smile and a firm nod from the handsome baker.

"what do you recommend?" chan piped up, his eyes roaming the display case that stood in front of them.

the baker pointed at the egg tarts, and once again gave them a smile.

"two, please." chan smiles as the baker put them in a small bag, and hands it to them. he holds up a little 'two' with his fingers as he notions for payment. sticking his hand in the small pouch, chan pulls out two coins and slides them across the counter.

"have a good night!" soonyoung said softly, giving the baker a wave.

as they continued their walk, chan leaned in toward his brother's ear, "well, he doesn't talk much, does he?"

soonyoung giggled in response, "definitely the stoic type, it works in an odd way though."

"the 'odd way' being that he's unbelievably cute, right?" chan responded, raising a questioning eyebrow.

soonyoung shook his brother off with a grin, "cute, yes. but not my type. i like someone with a little bit of bite! if i can't talk and have fun with them, then what's the point?"

chan nodded in agreement, and their comfortable silence was interrupted by the cheers of men and the clinking of pints coming from a nearby pub.

"woah, bars back in the mountains were never this lively! wanna go check it out?" soonyoung grinned, already dragging chan across the street by the wrist.

"woah soon! isn't that a little scary? this is all very new to us, like the bakery is as much sight-seeing as i can handle for one night."

"c'mon! it'll be fun!"

"fine..."

the twins barged into the pub, greeted by the hungry eyes of burly drunk men checking them out from head to toe.

soonyoung's initial excitement was soon replaced with fear and anxiety as a few of those men approached him and his brother.

"we haven't seen you two here before... what are your names?" the first man said, running his dirty fingers through soonyoung's soft hair.

a second man came for chan, snaking his large hand around the smaller boy's slim waist. "twins, huh? very pretty ones at that... where'd you come from?"

chan threw soonyoung a look of dread, "u-uh we're from the mountains..."

"the mountains! no wonder your skin is so pale... beautiful." the first man responded, grazing his hand against soonyoung's cheek.
