Chapter 6

Katie's point of view

"Hey mom, dad. I'm at Cody's right now. There kind of, just might be a demon in our house, so you might want to get out. I'm really sorry, 'cause you might be in danger, and all. I'll tell you in advance next time. Sorry again, bye." Lauren said into the phone.

She turned back around and looked at me.

"Voice mail." she shrugged, heading back to our group of friends who were sitting in Cody's living room.

Sighing, i followed her in and took a seat beside bailey on the couch, who was staring absentmindedly at the window.

I tapped him on the shoulder, and he lightly shook his head and turned his attention to me.

"Are you okay - wait, stupid question. None of us are." I said, looking at him.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just creeped, i guess" He said, the corners of his mouth drooping down into a frown. He looked at the window again.

Sighing, i stuck my hands in my pockets.

I was surprised when my fingers closed on a small object.

A piece of paper.

I pulled it out, carefully reading its messy words.

Meet me out front.

I frowned, my eyebrows furrowing. Would "N" be Nex? Must be.

I forgot about him.

He was in my hall, and in my kitchen. Was he just a dream, was he really there, or am i going crazy?

Only one way to find out.

I slowly stood up from my seat and took a step away from the group.

Grace shot me a questioning look, and exchanged a glance with Brianna.

"Bathroom," I said nodding at her. "I won't be long."

She dismissively nodded at me and turned to engage Brianna in a quiet conversation.

I made my way over to the bathroom and opened and closed the door.

Making sure none of my friend were looking i grabbed my shoes and crept towards the front door. I took one last look at my depressed friends and silently opened the door.

I walked out into the yard, welcoming the cool summer air.

Nex was nowhere to be found.

I walked over to small wooden bench and sat down.

My life is so chaotic right now, what's happening?

I used to be so normal. I was smart i played sports, and i had amazing friends. My life wasn't perfect, but it was mine, and i was happy with it.

And Nex, what's with him? He's completely gorgeous, talking to me all nice and sad, seeming genuinely concerned. And then the next minute he's by the dead body of one of my best friends and viciously pulling me back by my hair. And his eyes, they were blue, and then they turned red. How does that work? Am i going crazy?

Maybe this is all some crazy dream. Maybe i hit my head on a tree or something when we were chasing after Daniel. Maybe i went unconscious and maybe i still am. Maybe I'm still dreaming. Maybe this is all not rea-

"Katie? Are you okay?" I was interrupted from my thoughts by nex's deep voice.

I looked up into his once again blue eyes, and i felt my eyes narrowing.
