The sun sunk far below the horizon with the moon creeping up the opposite direction. The night sky was setting in. It was peaceful out, so nice and quiet. For these two, it was anything but. That's how they felt, at least.

They were both sat on Spongebob's bed. Plankton was sitting on the edge of it, while Spongebob was sitting up against his pillows and the bed frame behind them, curled up in a ball, his face buried in between his knees. Muffled sobbing could be heard coming from him. Plankton did his best to comfort him, but he's never been put in this sort of position before. His arm rested on Spongebob's back, rubbing it gently, trying to give him some sort of peace.

"Hey, don't worry," Plankton reassured him. "It was going to happen, anyways. There's no point in crying over it now."

Spongebob didn't respond, but his head did turn to face him. His baby blue eyes and pale skin, now stained with the emotional pain he had endured faced Plankton's stern, but strangely comforting red eyes. Plankton gave him a gentle smile as the two of them sat there in miserable silence. He tried to think of some way to make him feel better, anything at all.

Then, he remembered. The bag!

He stands up and made his way over to the door frame where the bag was placed against. Spongebob looked over at him, through his sadness, some confusion mixed in with his expression. He pulled out the baby-sized teddy bear from the shopping bag and holds it. He analyzed it for a moment, then looked over at Spongebob. He was looking at Plankton, but then looked away once they made eye contact. Plankton smiled at the man's reaction and walked back over to him.

When he was back beside him, he sat down on the edge of the bed and hands him the toy. Spongebob didn't fully understand what Plankton was doing, or even why. His eyes look back up at his.

"Here," Plankton spoke, softly, "you might like this more."

Spongebob looked down at the bear, then back up at Plankton. "But, that...that's for Karen.."

"Yeah, but...she never really cared much for toys. Here." Plankton placed the toy in Spongebob's lap, smiling softly at him. Spongebob looked at it for a moment. It seemed like Plankton was really okay with this. If he was, then Spongebob was too. Without further hesitation, he held the toy tightly to him, smothering his face in it as he tries to keep himself relaxed, although sniffles could still be heard.

Plankton sat back down on the bed, sighing softly. He felt a certain amount of comfort seeing him with the toy, but it wasn't much. His eyes fixated on the upset blonde as he hid his face in the stuffed bear. He tried to think of another way to calm him down. Then he had an idea. Something he had never tried before, not even with his now ex-wife.

He started to sing, in a soft, almost lullaby tone. His song of choice was "Kermit's Lament", but replaced Kermit with Spongebob's name. It seemed to be calming him down a little. The blonde sniffled softly, his eyes peeking up to look at Plankton. Plankton's eye was closed as he sung softly, his hand continuing to gently rub his back.

He was still shaking as he tried to relax, squeezing the bear for a moment before slowly letting go. It took a while, but Spongebob was soon relaxed. Plankton looked down at him, smiling softly.

"Feel better?" he asked, his voice in an almost whisper tone. Hesitantly, Spongebob responded with a slow nod, his eyes looking down at the ground. He couldn't bear to speak. His heart was so far down in his stomach it shot back up in his throat. Plankton didn't force him to speak, knowing the state he's in.

They were silent for a while longer, embracing each other's company. Plankton took a small glance behind him, looking at the lilac purple blanket folded at the end of the bed. Carefully, he used his free hand and pulled the blanket towards him, then wrapping it around the blonde man next to him. It did surprise and slightly confuse Spongebob, but he eased his tension quickly once he realized what was going on.

"You should probably start getting ready for bed," Plankton suggested. "You have work tomorrow, don't you?"

Spongebob gave a slow nod before slowly getting up onto his feet, putting the blanket and bear gently on the bed, grabbing his pyjamas, and making his way to the bathroom to get ready for bed. While he took care of that, Plankton stood up and made his way to his bed that was still set-up on the floor.

In a few minutes, Spongebob came back into the bedroom, getting back into bed and curling up under the covers, pulling the bear close to him. From the bit Plankton could see, Spongebob seemed more miserable than ever before. Today must have gotten to him badly.

Plankton said a small "Good night" to him before tucking himself under the covers for the night. Spongebob didn't respond, his eyes already shut, holding his fluffy companion close as he fell asleep.
