The two of them stood in front of the Chum Bucket. Plankton held the bag with the gifts for his soon-to-be ex-wife, Karen. Spongebob was filled with joy and excitement for this moment, but Plankton was completely different. His eye was filled with dread and gloom. Holding the bag in his hand felt like such a burden on him, especially since he knows what was waiting behind those doors.

Spongebob noticed his soulless expression and gave him a big pat on the back, which ended up startling him.

"Oh, cheer up, Plankton!" Spongebob said, gleefully. "Everything will be fine, I promise!"

"What if she doesn't want me? She hasn't come back to me since I left."

"That doesn't mean anything! She's probably just as sad as you are. Hey, how about I go in with you, hm? That might make you feel less awkward."

Plankton sighed, his head hung low, him looking at the doors of his former home. "Let's just get this over with." Spongebob linked arms with Plankton and they walked into what once was his home. What they came across inside was shocking.

"Woah," Spongebob awed, "this place is beautiful!"

He was right, too. Somehow, in such a short amount of time, Karen was able to completely transform the inside from a lousy dump to resemble a 1950's diner. The floor tile was a shining black and white, the walls had the same pattern, but with a more dull black, with a matching colored ceiling. The tables were a dark cherry red and fhe seats were a maroon color.

What shocked them more than anything was the amount of people eating there. It was almost jam packed with customers! Something Plankton could have only dreamed of, and if this doesn't go well, he'll have to keep dreaming. The food even looked amazing, probably better than the Krusty Krab, which was impossible to beat. The two looked around in awe until they hear a door swing open.

They looked in front of them to see her. Karen. She didn't look too much different, but she was sure as stunning as ever. Her lilac hair pinned up in a bun, still wearing the same, silver dress that she was programmed with. She also had on her electric green, visor shades that she had since being programmed. Everything about her seemed to be the same as when Plankton left, except for the purple rollerskate wheels she had on her silver boots which they can only assume she had installed herself, she was very smart, after all.

Karen noticed them right as the door closed behind her. She gave the customers their food, then made her way over to Spongebob and Plankton. Her skates retracted back into her boots as she stared at the two of them, mainly at Plankton.

"Well, well, nice of you to show up again. I thought you were going to leave for good."

She gives him a penetrating gaze, her face was a mix of anger and slight surprise that he actually came back. She moves her gaze to Spongebob. "I see you brought a little friend with you."

"Yeah, well...this was his idea." Plankton responded. There was a pause. Karen looked around her restaurant, then back to Plankton.

"Let's take this outside." She said before walking to the door, Plankton and Spongebob following behind. As the door closes behind them, Karen leads Plankton to the side of the building. Spongebob tried following, but Plankton turned and stopped him.

"I think," Plankton spoke, "you should stay here. This is personal stuff." He hands him the bag with all the little goodies inside. "Why don't you hold onto this. I'll let you know if I need it."

Spongebob hesitated, but eventually took the bag from Plankton. He looked at him, worried about what will happen next.

"Don't worry. I'll be fine. Wait over there," he cooed before turning around and approaching Karen. Spongebob turned the opposite direction and dragged himself towards the front entrance of the establishment.

He waited, patiently. And waited, and waited. He can hear them talking, but can't quite make out what they were saying. He started to doze off and looked around him to keep him busy. Saying hi to people passing by, looking up at the sky and looking at plants, anything to keep him entertained.

Then, there was yelling. Spongebob recognized the voice, too. He spun his body  around towards Plankton and Karen.

"Oh no...!" He dropped the bag and immediately ran over to them. He hid beside the wall, eavesdropping on them to make sure they're not hurting each other.

"If you knew this was a bad idea, then why did you even come in the first place?!" Karen yelled. "You could have stayed home with that sponge and none of this would've happened!"

"It was his idea, woman!" Plankton roared. "If I had even a sliver of a choice, I wouldn't ever come near you! You never care about what I want!"

"Hah! Look who's talking," Karen contradicts. "Anytime I talk about what I want, my dreams and my goals, you never listen!"

"Because they're pointless!"

Then, there was a pause. Plankton quickly came to the realization of what he had just said, gently covering his mouth with one hand. Karen looked like she was ready to burst, but she kept her composure.

"That's how you really feel, huh?" She said with little emotion in her voice. Plankton moved his hand away from his face as he tried to explain himself.

"Look, that came out wrong, I-"

"Well, I don't need people like you holding me back!"

She stormed off, bumping into Spongebob, who was on the brink of tears. She went back inside, but not before taking multiple deep breaths and composing herself. She needed to look professional, after all, since this is her business now. Plankton made his way towards Spongebob. He stood inches away from him and let out a deep sigh.

"I told you this was a bad idea," he said. He expected a response from the sponge, something optimistic and hopeful, but didn't get one. Instead, all he heard were sniffles.

"Hey," he said, gently placing his hand on Spongebob's shoulder. "Hey, don't cry. It was going to happen either way."

"B-but..." Spongebob choked on his words. "I...I want you two to, to be happy to...tog-gether..."

"I know, I know." Plankton walked towards the bag Spongebob dropped and picked it up. He then walked back to him and handed him the bag. "Why don't we head back to your place and forget all about this, hm?"

Spongebob gave him a small, slow nod in response, and the two of them walked back to Spongebob's home, hoping that the day will be over soon.
