You've heard many rumors surrounding the 'Eye of the Devil'. Whispers that echoed throughout the city like a disease.
"That bastard birth mother slept with the devil himself!"
"The demon will bring us all despair!"
"If you look into that thing's eyes your soul will be damned to hell."
All of these rumors were swirling around about this 'Eye of the Devil' person but you believed that everyone deserves a chance to show who they really are.

"Father and mother must be out at the stand already... Darn it why did I stay up so late last night." Thinking out loud to yourself, you hurriedly slipped on your shoes and sprinted towards the market. "At this rate father is going to scold me for missing my shift again!"
To your surprise, the city streets were bustling with carriages and people everywhere. "Looks like I came down right when rush hour started." With the fear of being yelled at by your father in mind, you rush into a back alley in hopes of reaching the market stand faster.
"This is not good." You quickly realized that after you made your fifth right turn in a row your legs felt exhausted. Pausing to get a hold of your surroundings, a wave of uneasiness was in the air.
You were lost.
Even though it was rush hour a moment ago, you could no longer hear the chatter of the people nor the horses gallops on the stone road. Everything in your vision was old and decrepit, as if it had been lost to the hands of time long ago.
Taking you out of your thoughts, a rustling sound came from one of the bushes opposite you.
"W-who's there?!"
Your voice was shaking but you paid it no mind as you approached the sound. "You better s-show yourself!"
The bush had stopped rustling but there was a sudden chill in the air.
"Was it just the wind? No it can't just be-" Losing your train of thought, you felt very cold. It was not the type of coldness you feel in the autumn, it was like your heart was frozen solid and sending its chill across your body. Someone was watching you.
A shiver ran down your spine when you felt something brushed against your lower leg. Tilting your head down at your heels, you see a black cat with piercing golden eyes meowing at your feet.
"Hey there, you scared me..."
You bent down and scratched behind the cat's ear. "Are you lost too? Do you have someone who is waiting for you?" You asked the cat, not really expecting an answer to this one sided conversation. The cat just purrs from your touch. The sun was already beginning to set, and the alleyway was much darker compared to the main streets. You could feel tears fill your eyes.
"Am I going to be stuck here forever? I don't want to be alone!"
Hot tears streamed down your face, the realization that you may never be able to find a way out of the dark alleyways makes your mind run wild with worry. You will never be able to see your friends or family again, and they'll never know where you went but worst of all, you will never be able to have homemade apple pie ever again!
You awoke from your sadness to a loud meow, as you realize that the black cat was still there watching you.
"Do... Do you know the way out..?"
As if you said the magic words, the cat perked up and ran to the bushes. It stopped and turned back to you as if it was beckoning you to follow it before going into the bush. With nothing left to lose, you dried the tears from your eyes and followed the golden-eyed cat.
