You sat outside your window, staring down at the empty street with a small sigh before looking back to your small digital clock.
"Well, Matt's late," you grumbled, sighing and placing both hands on the window. Before you could close it, two strong pairs of arms tackled you back into your room.
"Miss me?" A black-haired boy asked, winking at you. Your eye twitched.
"Matt! You're late! You're never late!" You ridiculed, standing up and helping him up as well, sighing and smiling. He grinned back at you, grabbing your arm and hoisting himself up.
"Ready to go?" He asked. You nodded with a smile.
"Hell yeah, this place sucks ass," you replied as you two left out the window after closing it. He adjusted his well-loved jacket, fluffing up the back of the hood.
"The bar?" He asked. You nodded.
"The bar."
You both laughed as he elbowed you in the stomach lightly. The flickering lights in the lamp posts darkened and lightened the cracked sidewalk around you as you stepped on the many weeds that adorned the cracks. You passed small, one-story houses, some lights on but most of them off. Their windows looked like they haven't been washed in forever, and the cars in the front had many dents and scratches on them.
Finally you reached your small town. Past the supermarket that was as big as a gas station and the many interesting hotels and restaurants, you finally reached the place you two always went on Saturdays.
"Here we are! After you, mi'lady," Matt winked, faking a bow and opening the door for you. With a somewhat petite giggle, you entered the spacious area with a grin.
"Why thank you good sir!" You laughed, making you two crack up. After finishing, you fixed the collar of your dark blue hoodie since it was starting to choke you.
You walked up to the main counter, where a woman with meat in the right areas came up to you. She brushed her ink black hair over her shoulder with a smile. "The usual?"
"The usual."
"On the house. Had fun last night," She smiled sweetly, winking at Matt. You shuddered as she gave you two very large glasses of Cola. You took it, glancing at your best friend skeptically as she blew him a kiss.
"I... nope," you said before taking a swig of your fizzy drink. He nodded, taking his own sip.
"Best not to question."
You grinned as he sat next to you before taking out a deck of cards from his pocket and started to shuffle through them. Rolling your eyes, you looked over his shoulder to see him smiling at them before looking over at you. "Gonna score some good cash tonight baby!"
"Sure whatever. I'll pitch in with shuffling and stuff. Who's the target?" You asked, looking around the somewhat full bar. Men and women alike seemed to be in high spirits, laughing and having a good time even though they lived in the slums of the ever-expanding city.
Matt scanned the many pods of people, seeing who he could score. Usually, your best friend found very good targets, who usually lost to his tricks. You were the dealer and said what was fair and what wasn't. Sometimes you got tips if you did a good job.
"Them," he announced, handing you the cards and pointing to a group of guys that looked like they were in the late thirties. You shivered, eye twitching.
"O-Okay, whatever," you stammered. The black-haired male placed a pale hand on your shoulder, reassuring you that everything was going to be alright. You nodded before walking over to them, Matt following from behind.
