Background: Alexandra Perez, better known by her nickname Lexie, was born in New Jersey to a Peruvian father and a Puerto Rican mother. She was the younger of three children (she has an older sister named Marina and an older brother named Carlos). Her original dream was to become an Olympic gymnast, after being enrolled into gymnastics lessons at age 4 and watching gymnastics on TV. Lexie worked her way up the levels rapidly and from 2013-2016, she was part of the U.S. national women's artistic gymnastics team. She was aiming to make the Olympics in Rio, but injuries and (unbeknownst to the public) mental health issues derailed her plans. She left gymnastics behind and turned her focus to building her YouTube channel. After just a month of uploading videos, she rose to fame in February 2017 with a series of videos on her trying to recreate famous gymnastics routines. She currently is is studying to become a fitness trainer, and continues to find success on YouTube. Lexie also notably spoke up against USA Gymnastics in 2018 and continues to advocate for reform in the senior elite artistic gymnastics program.
