The gentle wind trickled through the air and past Batmans cape, making it flutter menacingly around him. Lit windows glinted in the narrowed lenses of his cowl, while the blaring of car horns, and distant barks echoed into his ears. He stood perched, watching over his city. Waiting.
During the day, this city stood tall and proud. The first major detail being the tower standing taller than anything else. With a world known 'W' at its top. The symbol of Wayne.
During the night, this city laid ominous and dark. The screams of despair echoing from every dark corner. The symbol of Wayne replaced with the symbol of a bat high in the night sky.
This was Gotham.
And that 'W' was it's protector.
Along with the bat.
During both the day and unknowingly at night. As Wayne enterprises and the feared Batman.
Two worlds collided into one man.
And one man fighting to protect this whole world.
With a bit of help, of course.
"Multiple heat signatures." Nightwing whispered, eyes glued to the binoculars in his hands. "Counting a total of eight." Ebony hair fluttered with the wind as he turned his attention back towards the mentor- the friend- he had grown to care for so dearly.
"Pyg has been operating out of Gotham and in Bludhaven for the past month." Batman explained, his glare deepening as he stated, "several teens have gone missing from the city since."
"Unfortunately," Nightwing began with a sigh, placing the binoculars back against his eyes. "I doubt those kids are ever going to return to their normal lives. No one has ever recovered from being turned into one of Pygs dollatrons.."
Batman merely hummed in response.
Both hero's stayed perched on their chosen rooftop, waiting for the chance to storm the abandoned warehouse that used to house supplies for fishermen once upon a time. But now bars in the prisoners of one of Gothams more sinister of men.
Is was merely a waiting game now. Like a rattlesnake waiting to strike its prey and deliver a life ending dose of venom.
Unfortunately, even though the rattlesnake is a known deadly predator. It too has many more stronger enemies.
The bioship hummed as it shot through the air. The small team of hero's celebrating a successful recon mission amongst themselves. "Batman is going to be so stoked when he finds out we actually pulled it off!" Kid Flash beamed, giddy in his seat as a smile wrinkled freckled skin.
"Don't forget to mention the guard you tipped off though." Artemis cut in with a smug smirk. "If it wasn't for M'gann he probably would've alerted the others and the whole mission would have been a bust."
The speedster slumped back into his seat with a huff. "Yeah yeah, I know." He sighed, before turning over to Miss Martian and saying, "Thanks again by the way." with a wink.
"It was no problem." The Martian beamed, before her mood seemed to deflate a bit. "Too bad Dick couldn't come. It would have been the first time in a while the original team was working together."
"Dick did apologize for having to miss out." Aqualad cut in with an ever so gentle gaze. "And I am sure he will be more than happy to hear the mission was a success."
That seemed to brighten up the others mood as Miss Martian smiled back at the Atlantian a moment before asking the group, "Do any of you know why he missed the mission?"
