I stood at the trauma bay and watched as doctors moved back and forth throughout the room dealing with patients. I had my grey sweat pants on and my red sweater. My hair was up in a sloppy bun and I had no makeup on.

"Ma'am- can I help you?" A woman asked me and I looked at her. I nodded and furrowed my eyebrows. "I'm-" I said but was cut off by a familiar voice. " Hadley?" Callie said and I turned towards the doctor and she sped walked up to me and wrapped her arms around me. I put my arms around her and she gripped me hard.

"How is he? I'm sorry I didn't make it faster." I said and she pulled back and shook her head. "It's- not looking good. But Mark- Mark's strong." She said and I nodded and she looked down at my hands. "This is new." She said looking down at my engagement ring and I nodded and smiled. "Yeah- we just got engage 4 months ago." I said and she gave me a bright smile and sighed. " Do you want to go see him?" She asked and I nodded and she held my hand as we both walked over to a room.

I saw Derek in the room and he turned and saw me. "Hadley. It's good to see you." He said and I gave him a smile and walked over to him. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled away. "I'm glad you're okay." I said and he gave me a nod.

"We have a surgery to preform. You can stay here if you like." Callie said and I nodded and sat down as Derek gave my shoulder a squeeze. I sat down at the chair next to the bed and grabbed Mark's limp hand and began telling him everything that has happened in the past months since I haven't seen him.

Hours later I sat next to Mark and Callie and Derek walked in.  I watched as another doctor walked in- who was a lot older and he walked over to his ventilator. "I'm turning his ventilator off." He said and I jumped up and Derek held onto my hand.

They took out the tube from his mouth and Callie let out sobs. Mark gagged a bit as they took out the tub and I jumped hearing it. The older doctor looks at us and gave us a curt nod. "I'll give you all some privacy." He said and left the room. Callie sat down and Derek let go of my hand and sat down looking at his bestfriend.

I watched as Mark gave his last breath and the monitor started beeping and Derek stood up and shut it off. Callie began crying even more and I stared at the limp body of Dr. Mark Sloan.

The man who helped me feel confident after an explosion. The man who helped me- stitched me and made it seem like there was nothing wrong with me. I watched as he gave his last breath and for once I felt defeated.
