Lifetime [STOPPED]

I. Ineffable

Shinobu's POV

It was past midnight when Tomioka-san and I were sent for a mission to a small village near by. It was reported that many people were being kidnapped during the past 2 months.

"Tomioka-san, you should talk more, maybe then you won't be disliked by people" I said breaking the deafening silence between us.

He stopped walking and glanced in my direction, "I am not disliked by people" he says making me chuckle.

We continued walking in silence, well, he continued to walk in silence, while I continued teasing him.

When we arrived at the village, only a few people were awake, they--mostly women--started to look in our way with weird looks, I noticed that they were staring at Tomioka-san, "Ara~ara, Tomioka-san, look at these women staring at you, maybe you'll find someone to like you... to like an emotionless person like you" I started teasing him again, "Kocho, we're here for a mission" he stated in a monotonous tone, I just rolled my eyes, "Fine, let's go ask some of the villagers about the missing people".

We started asking some people around the village about the incident. We soon found out that the missing people were around the age of 16-25, most of them were women who were wandering near the forest.

Tomioka-san and I agreed to go to the forest where the villagers found the clothes or the possession of the victims.

We arrived in the forest to be greeted by a strong smell of blood.

The demon must be close.

We followed the scent of blood and it lead us right to the demon. It had tentacles coming out of its back, long green hair that reached the ground, it turned to us exposing him while he was devouring victim, his eyes were similar to a cat, except this demon had black and green eyes and it had a single horn sticking out of the right part of his forehead. It smiled at us exposing its long sharp fangs, "Hello there, I'm guessing you both are demon slayers" it then sniffed the air, "Hmm... You two are Hashiras also, it would be such an honor to kill a hashira. Perfect, just perfect! You have such sweet scents" it chuckled.

While the demon was talking, I can see its tentacles moving around its back, going towards us.

I gave Tomioka a knowing look, he just nodded in return, he quickly vanished and started cutting the tentacles of the demon.

"How impressive, you saw my toys right away" it said while waving some of its tentacles around and trying to catch me, which the demon unsuccessfully did.

I quickly jumped from one branch to another. I can see that Tomioka was doing the same, jumping from one tree to another, so that he could avoid the tentacles trying to grab him and cut them but every time he cut a tentacle, the tentacles would grow back two more tentacles.

"Looks like we're going to have fun tonight, why don't I just introduce myself? I am Zereki, I am aiming to be one of the 12 Demon Moons. I just need two more humans to eat so that I could challenge them, just my luck that you two are here" Zereki chuckled.

This demon is freaking insane. The things these demons do just to gain power. I sighed

It's time to end this annoying demon's life and stop it from killing more innocent lives.

I jumped on a rock and started to stab the demon,"Breath of Insect, Dance of the Butterfly: Caprice".

"What the hell was that?!" Zereki started to laugh, but the poison soon took over his body, purple veins were starting to appear on his skin, the demon stopped laughing and stared at me with anger filled eyes, "You weak demon slayer! You can't even cut my head off" he extended one of his tentacles and it quickly wrapped tightly around my right ankle, making me wince in pain.

Tomioka took advantage of the situation to cut of the demon's head, "Breath of Water. First form: Water Surface Slash".

The tentacle wrapped around my ankle started to loosen up. I could already feel my body falling to the ground. I was waiting for pain to take over my body but it never came, I waited for a while, maybe I'm falling from a high place? But the pain of the impact I was expecting never came.

I slowly opened my eyes to be met with cold and emotionless, dark sapphire blue eyes. A man with raven hair tied in a messy low ponytail was now carrying me bridal style, "I can walk you know" I tried to stand up but ended up falling. This time, no one caught me, I just landed on my behind Tomioka just sighed but soon enough, he picked me up gently and carried me on his arms making my heart flutter and my cheeks turn pink, "Ara~ara, Tomioka-san, are you, perhaps worried?" I teased him, trying to hide the blush on my face. He just continued walking as if he didn't hear me.

No one can know about this. No one should see me being treated like child, they'll see me as a weak person. I tried stopping the tears that were now, on the verge of falling from my eyes.

I wrap my arms around his neck so that my upper body weight can be supported. I look up to see his face, it's so defined, he has a sharp nose, he has hig--

I look up the sky, observing the stars and the clouds of the dark night sky. You could even see some shooting stars if you wait patiently, I inhaled Tomioka's scent and relaxed a bit.

Maybe Tomioka-san isn't that bad, I smiled at my own thought.

I stared at the beautiful full moon above us."Isn't the moon lovely Tomioka-san?"

So after arguing with myself. I have decided to finally make a book about these two. I was inspired by a song from my here.
