"your sister?" harry asked, with his legs wide in a relaxed position on the green and blue couch of his studio, in front of him sat jeff, his manager. an annoyed look on his face.
"yes, my sister. she's doing a gap year," he reiterated, while staring at his phone, his elbows rested on his knees as he leaned forward.
"i didn't know you had a sister, mate," harry said, looking up as sarah and mitch entered the room, "jeff's got a sister,". this time he directed it to the other members of the band who looked up surprised at jeff's confession.
"yeah well dad apparently got around," jeff stated, wiping his forehead.
"oh shit man," mitch scrunched up his face with sympathy.
"it's fine," jeff stood up and wiped the his palms on the fabric of his jeans.
"what's her name?" asked sarah, leaning against mitch who had an arm around the back of the seat they shared.
"valerie aphra," he replied, eyes still glued to his phone.
"from?" harry asked, the name valerie aphra rung in his head, the name tasted odd as he mouthed the two words.
"carolina," jeff replied, this time he began walking out of the door, an impatient look on his face. "i'm heading to the airport now. tomorrows a day off for me, but harry if you come up with something. call me yeah?".
at the airport, valerie aphra sat on the short cement brick outside. her carry on bag sat beside her feet and her roller bag stood in front of her. she picked up her purse, and shifted the contents around in an attempt to find a loose cigarette, but instead she found nothing.
luckily, a car pulled up in front of valerie, and out popped jeff. an uneasy look rested on his face, valerie stood up and straightened her jacket. she was unsure whether she should hug him or shake his hand or just stand there. jeff had the same silent dilemma, how were you supposed to greet the bastard child you father had 20 years ago after being unfaithful to your mother.
the two stood in front of each other. valerie put on her best smile and stuck her hand out for him to shake, "t'suppose we start small, hey?" she said. to which he smiled and shook her hand back.
"thanks for letting me stay with you," she said again, this time his face harden, instead of replying straight away jeff lifted her suitcase and dragged it toward the car, he loaded it in the trunk and turned to face valerie.
"dads dying wish, right," he said.
valerie frowned at his comment, she knew he didn't want to accommodate her for an entire year but rather it was out of obligation. she felt pretty bad for the man, when their dad got diagnosed with cancer he wrote a letter and sent it to both families, eventually valerie reached out jeff.
he was not the least accommodating but she didn't blame his attitude. needless to say the car ride back was quiet and awkward, neither of them attempted to say a word.
as they reached jeff's apartment, she realised that this would be her new life for the next year. jeff gave her the generalised tour and showed her to her room. valerie spent the remainder of the next few hours unpacking her suitcase. she decided she would go shopping and buy all the necessities the next day.
she dressed her self in a green jumper and black track pants. she placed her cherry satin covers on her sheets. she unpacked her book bag and put them on the shelf.
the layout of the room was simple; from the entrance to the left was the book shelf, to the right was an empty wall. then there was the door which was perpendicular to the shelves, and then next to the bed were a massive windows.
jeff knocked on her door to notify her off dinner, she put some socks on and slid her way toward the kitchen. he gave her a plate they both took a seat on either sides of the couch.
there was a swift knock on the door and jeff raced to answer it, harry stepped into the house, a frantic look on his face and looked at jeff wide eyed.
"new song?" he asked, to which harry nodded. the two men stepped through the house and into the main lounge, valerie turned her head to come face to face with harry styles.
she looked to jeff with a confused look on her face, "he's my manager," harry said, his accent thick as he pointed to jeff.
valerie made an O with her mouth as she continued to eat her food, jeff went to the kitchen to get harry a plate.
"how long are you staying for, carolina?" valerie looked at him confused again as to why he had nicknamed her carolina.
"it's valerie," she smiled politely, he paid no mind to the correction as he picked up the tv remote and switched the channel, "not sure, yet,"
"jeff? how is he?" harry asked, sincerely, turning his whole body to look at her.
"he seems fine," she smiled.
"and you?"
"better then jeff," to which harry nodded, jeff entered the room and the two bid the girl farewell as they walked to the other end of the house and into what valerie assumed was a small recording studio.
she was stunned to have just met harry styles, many of her friends were obsessed with him and at times she to had fallen victim to his songs.
