-SUMMER AT THE DAWNING'S ESTATE was pure hell. I expected this summer to be with the Malfoy's like usual, but to my dismay, my best friend, Draco Malfoy, had been ignoring me all holiday. It had been months since I have last saw or heard from him.
I stared out my window out at the round fountain in the garden. I felt desperate, Draco probably thinks I'm annoying. Never the less, I sit down at my desk and pull out my quill and a piece of partridge from my top drawer.
Dear Draco,
I miss you, Draco Malfoy.
No. I can't send that, I sound desperate
Merlin, Draco probably laughs at these letters, knowing him, he's probably laughing at how lonely and pathetic I sound.
He'd be right though. I am lonely, this house is lonely. As beautiful and big as it is, I felt trapped, the walls were closing in. I need fresh air.
I slipped on my black flats and skipped down the marble staircase to the first floor. The kitchens dark interior was lit by the floor length windows that overlook the garden. I walked to the front door to see my cat, Stevie sleeping in the golden slivers of sunlight that came in from the front window. I call out to her and she coos as she wakes up and stretches. Stevie was my only friend now and days.
The black cat ran in between my legs as we both walked outside. I breathed in the fresh air and started to walk along the stoned path of the garden. Taking deep breaths as I walked, brushing my fingers across the bushes and flowers lightly. I bathed in the feeling of the warm sun on my face. I made my way to the front gate and stood behind the black bars that resembled a prison cell and looked out at the long driveway. I was wearing a simple white tank top and black shorts, if my parents knew I even left my room with clothes like this on, they'd lock me in there for the rest of the summer for sure. The Dawning's has always prided themselves on their appearance, the family was always complimented on their good looks and elegant clothes and appearance.
I know I shouldn't be complaining about it but everyone at school seems to think that my families reputation makes me less human. It was always hard to make friends. You'd think having a high status in the wizarding word would make people like you more. Sadly for me, that wasn't the case. But for Draco, it was. Every girl had a crush on him, everyone wanted to be his friend, I was always confused why he stuck by me when he could have any girl he wanted. I remember the time he asked me to the yule ball in our fourth year, every girl in the Slytherin house hated me, not to mention some Ravenclaw girls as well. I find it quite funny how so many girls obsess over him.
My thoughts were interrupted hearing Stevie meow behind me, "what is it Stevie?" I say in a higher pitched voice as I turn around in question to see her jumping trying to catch a white butterfly. I watch her for a moment seeing her jump and play until my mothers voice rang in my ears from last night.
"Your father and I will be leaving quite early tomorrow morning so I suppose you won't see us till later at night. Please pack for Hogwarts, I know your now accustomed to your new lazy lifestyle but please do something productive."
I roll my eyes at the memory from the day before. I groan as I take heavy steps back to the estate and make my way up the spiral staircase back up to my room. I hadn't even changed out of my pajamas yet and it was almost three. I guess it's the safer choice to obey my parents. They always threatened "don't make us tell the Dark Lord about how bad of a daughter you are."
"Do you want the Malfoy's to know how difficult you are?"
"Should we tell Snape to keep an extra eye on you at Hogwarts this year."
"You don't deserve this luxury."
Sometimes I could even hear my father mutter under his breath that his life would have been better off without a child.
