Chapter 5 - Meeting - Natasha
"I will never leave you" - Steve Rogers
I managed to get to the 32nd floor just in time for my meeting, which at 3:00 (I was there at 2:26). Steve was going to be in the meeting, which was quite a refreshing thing to know.
I open the door and find that there is a large table in the middle of the room. I find myself a chair near the top of the table and I place my bag on the back of the chair.
——————————————————————————————————————
It was finally the beginning of the meeting, which Fury had announced one second before. Sitting at the table were me, Steve, Maria, Agent Morse, Clint, Wanda, Sam, Agent Reston and, surprisingly, that nurse that I encouraged Steve to call; apparently she's an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D's special service.
"So if you people are unaware, last week we had a couple visitors. And as always, they were from HYDRA. However, their cause was very different from what we have faced before." Fury turned his body to face in my direction. "Their mission was the Black widow."
I suddenly feel my heart race and I gulp. What? Why was I their mission? I didn't understand.
"Me?" I say, confusion, annoyance and amusement all lingering in my voice all at the same time.
"Yes, Agent Romanoff, you," he said in 'a matter of fact' kind of tone, and I just threw him a deeply concerned look. "They were trying to assassinate you."
I feel my face go hot and my heart stop. Could it be the red room? I think to myself.
"What?" I breathe out, surprised at his reply.
"Yes, according to your witch friend Ms Maximoff, they were spies from the Red Room." He pauses as he feels me tense. "You were trained there, correct?" He says carefully, cautiously choosing his words.
"Yes," I stammer.
He continues to walk back and forth in a line with his hands behind his back. "Well, they were trying to hunt you down."
I feel my heart beat even faster and my body numb as I listen to his next words.
"What was the evidence that they were from this Red Room?" Maria asks with a concerned expression.
"Ms Maximoff was able to read their minds, Agent Hill. Later they admitted that they were part of the organisation," Fury replies with 'a matter of fact' kind of tone.
"What happened to them?" I stutter, and everyone brings their attention back to me. "The agents, what happened to them?"
"They are currently being confined to their cells, but we plan on interrogating them once again quite soon. Hopefully when we have more evidence," Fury says.
"More evidence of what?" Steve asks, now joining the conversation.
"More evidence of why they wanted to kill Agent Romanoff." Fury takes a deep breath and continues talking. "So, the reason that I called all of you here is because we have a mission," he says with the shadow of a smirk. "If they want to kill Romanoff, then so be it, but we're not going to let that slip." He glances at me and gives me a reassuring smile and I nod in sincerity back. "We need to track down these agents, get to the root of all this and amend this mess. We cannot afford to let HYDRA infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D like it has done endless times before, we need to tear it down." He emphasises 'tear it down' and pronounces them kind of detached from one another like a film trailer VoiceOver. "Okay?"
