There wasn't a single cloud in sight, which seemed unusual for a November morning. It was Thursday, three days until the end of my hiatus. I had taken 5 months off work to clear my mind a bit, I felt very stressed and overloaded with work and duties and stuff; Fury said he'ed call me if anything urgent happened and I needed to be in office at S.H.I.E.L.D, but so far everything's been good.

It was my last day in Brooklyn, and a couple days before I had visited some old friends of mine at their house.

Currently I'm staying in a small hotel by a long, long river. Everyday, in the morning, I go to the window and watch the subway go by on the tracks and I observe the birds flying high up in the sky. I tried drawing the landscape earlier, but my mind seemed to drift off and go somewhere else.

The train was pretty quiet today for some reason, I think it's because it was so cold outside, nobody wanted to go anywhere. I suddenly felt my phone buzz in my and I reached into my pocket to retrieve it. It was a phone call from...Natasha.

I felt myself blush and got butterflies in my stomach. What was she calling me for? I thought anxiously to myself.

I pressed the accept button and walked down the train to find a more private place to talk.

"Hey Steve."

"Hi Nat, you good?"

"Yeah, quite sick actually but good."

"Oh, okay. Is there anything you need?"

"Um, yeah. Fury called me earlier saying that he couldn't reach you so he asked me to tell you this."

"Yeah..."

"He needs us to go on a mission, quite an important one. He's said that we have until Sunday to start it."

"Okay..."

"He know's that you're taking a break but-"

"Nat, it's good. I'll be in Washington by 10:00 tonight."

"You sure? I mean, yeah, Fury kinda does want you to go on this mission, but Steve, if you can't it's ok-"

"I'm going to Washington anyways, I'm on the subway right now so I would be there anyhow."

"Okay. So I guess I'll see you sometime soon?"

"Yes, I'll be in office tomorrow morning."

"Okay, see you! Be safe, Steve."

"Bye. I hope you, um, get better."

"I will." I heard her give a sweet laugh which made me blush.

She hung up and I placed my phone back in my pocket smiling to myself. I liked hearing her voice, especially after not seeing her for 5 months, I missed her more than I would expect.

Natasha Romanov, it's funny. When we first met, we were simply just distant colleagues who got along, then we became teammates who always had each others back, and now, we're, close friends who will protect each other at all costs. I used to see her as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, but now, I've grown to care for her, she's become my best friend.

I'll see her soon I think to myself, and my smile grows even bigger.
